NSD REACT | TO 'MIX & MATCH' Ep 04

Comments

Zaynab

One thing I don't like about YG is that he forces his artists to change their voices to fit a specific style. He did the same thing with Rosé from Blackpink. If you listen to her ore debut soning style, it was a more clear and soulful. But now YG makes her sing in a more nasal tone. I'm glad that Hongseok is in Pentagon now. His voice is so beautiful and I would have hated to see it be destroyed by him being forced to change it.

I felt bad for heongseok but he really dont have that swag.. no shade nor hate but i just wonder why he is even there.. im happy that he still made his way up and hes in Pentagon. Now i am excited for ep 5. And yeah Bobby acting wierd made me thinks he likes Hanna ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ i always wanted to see iKON with girls..

Abit of TMI but the way you said "Bihi" is the name of the ship that became very very popular after LeeHi performed with B.I in this episode. There's also an unreleased cut where they interact abit more than what was shown on broadcast but you'll see the unique chemistry they have in the next episode. Watching Mix and Match really made me appreciate what Hanbin can do as a leader, as a producer and also as a sing songwriter that composes and writes lyrics. His group performances are always so entertaining to watch because you often see him add his own self-made melodies into the song they were covering to make the performances truly theirs. It's just a bonus to be able to witness all of this at a pre-debut stage. Loved when he said that he was proud to see that his group mates were shining. Yun and Chan really looked like they were having so much and so natural on stage!

iKONICS don't forget to leave good comments on Hanbin's dance solo part during unit KEMiSTRY on iKON's official YouTube channel 😊 https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=yfb1qGe0n0s

I think Hongseok had a good voice, just auditioned, and people at YG Ent. thought it would be a good addition. As you saw in WIN, YG didn't have a lot of trainees (like they do now) because the only "idol" boy group they had out was Big Bang. YG has their unique style that they are known for and that's their identify. If a singer doesn't fit, they have a lot of other labels to go to that fit their style. So for Hongseok, I think he fits in much better with Pentagon and their style. Also, there was talk that Hongseok had chosen YG for a resume boost so that he could have more opportunities with other labels (which is something a lot of trainees do, whether it be SM, JYP, etc. since they don't debut groups often; huge plus if they were a trainee for one of the big 3). I don't think his ultimate goal was to be part of iKON (if he get's in, then great; if not, then still good because he does have the talent and now he would have the exposure as well). Smart move on his part, but for Team B members... maybe a good stimuli?? And as for YG, I think he wanted 9 so that he could do this 3,3,3 thing which makes for a very good show. Anyways just my personal thoughts and what I remember during and after M&M. As always, thank you for your reaction! Congrats on finishing finals David!!!

Hope you feel better soon David! 😊 Bobby was awkward 😂 Hongseok is in Pentagon by the way and the girl that's on Bobby's team debuted as a solo artist and released a single it's pretty good I can't remember the name of the song though 😅 but Bobby posted about it on his IG

holy shiznit, Song sounds SO good with rock??? I never would've thought. Honestly, I think Jinhwan's team did best lol. But I'm very vocal biased and love that type of music. I'm just surprised they got last place cause Bobby's team got way more criticism than compliments. The only downfall of Jinhwan's team was Hongseok and even then, he had great vocals, just not the style so idk it felt weird to me...But honestly they were all amazing???? I fell off my chair when June came in during their song, wTF JUNE??? Then Jinhwan's falsetto??? Like damn. I am screaming rn. And Hongseok is the best vocalist of the three new trainees, but i'm not surprised, he did show off his vocals when he first joined. But the three new members did great, i'm impressed. I was so nervous for them. I really wondered if the other two members were on Hanbin's team, if they would've debuted with iKON. I think a lot of Chanwoo's praise is cause he had a good leader that helped him improve quickly and feel comfortable and practice well. Jinhwan and Bobby are amazing and i adore them, but they're not leaders nor have they trained to be leaders. They're very much softer than Hanbin (especially back then) and were focused on making the others feel comfortable and welcomed, they're not used to leading a team to this extent. They always help Hanbin but they never actually had to lead a group like this. I felt so sorry for Jinhwan, he tries so hard but not everyone is a leader :( he's very good emotional support to the group though.

Hope you feel better and your exams go good David. 💕

I know a lot of people think it's unfair for Hongseok, I was like that at first, I actually thought Bobby's team was last since everyone from jinhwans team were really good vocalists. But you have to understand YG, it's not changing them totally, it's more like how you will fit into the label. Why did the YG label accepted him as a trainee, because he has potential, he just needs that YG flavor. It’s quite hard to explain but in the next ep you will see Lee Hi, Hana and Lee Su-hyun. You’ll see that these girls are not hiphop at all. They’re voices are soulful, if you’re not familiar with the K industry labels then you won’t even notice they are YG because all known artists from YG are hiphop. But what makes these girls YG? They are powerful, they have angst. Why is that even important to be part of the YG label? Because YG trains their artists to be powerful on stage, other labels might have better singers, but YG commands each of their stages. YG sings live! Other labels might have better recordings when releasing a song but you’ll rarely see them sing them live. Just like what Jinhwan said to Hongseok during practice, he’s too ballad, he’s not competing there to be a solo artist in the first place, he’s there to be part of iKON. If he can do that ballad song really well, that’s good, but that’s just one minimal thing that iKON does, iKON dances, iKON releases Hype songs, there won’t be a good transition to move from one genre to a totally different one. iKON is known to defy all genre but the style and the swag never leaves them. No shade on Hongseok, he's really good and again I thought he was a threat to the others vocally. It's a good thing that he's in Pentagon, his style fits theirs perfectly

MJ

My previous comment was already long but let me just add another hahaha sorry. If you’ll also remember, during WIN, YG said that he thought Donghyuk and Yunhyeong didn’t feel YG at first. Bobby even said that Yunhyeong can’t dance, can’t sing so he doesn’t know how he got in (since he originally wants to be an actor). But they adopted really well. During the WIN & Mix&Match Era, you know that Donghyuk was a soft little puppy, you just want to protect him, but when he dances, he becomes the dancing king, Yunyheong looks as if he’s a softie, you even call him old man song, but you can’t deny that he fits iKON really well, he blends in when singing and dancing. Bottom line is EVERYONE tries their best to blend in. They just don’t do their thing to simply stand out, they make sure they are part of the team. Even Chanu and Jin during M&M tries to blend in with their Teams, hongseok might be better vocally, but YG sees how you do well as a team, if you’re cooperating or not. And that’s really important, not just for YG but for all other labels, else, you’ll definitely see kgroups disbanding so early in their careers when other feels like they can do it on their own. Jinhwan’s group is a vocal group, just like what I’ve said, all of them are really amazing vocally, they all have distinct voices, June has that raspy voice screams YG even though he’s singing ballad, Jinhwan’s voice is a little more soft but still powerful so he compliments well with June. HongSeok’s voice is really good and velvety but it lacks power, it’s more fitting for a real ballad group.

Jinhwan is actually really capable to be a leader too imo. iKON recently performed in a festival in Myongi University. While performing, fans noticed that they were only using one microphone and passing it to one another when it was their turn to sing and while performing “Dumb & Dumber”, their mics stopped working in the middle of the song except for one. iKON were so confused and asked the song to be stopped since only one mic was still working. Jinhwan looked very angry at that time. He then ordered Bobby to hype up the crowd and the other members to do fan service such as taking selfies while he went to the technical crew to demand explanation about the malfunction. That was not the only issue with their stage but the song would also abruptly stop then play then stop, iKON continued to perform regardless. They handled the situation smoothly and screams profesionalism. They are already known by being extremely profesional on stage but they showed again just how profesional they are with the way they handled what could only be described as one of the worst stage technical issues that could happen to any artist. I'm so proud of my boys :"D Many suspected this was the doing of some of the university's students since even before the festival, the students opposed for iKON to come perform at their university due to the issues that's happening with YG and Burning Sun right now which is clearly not iKON's fault though but they were the one who gets in trouble :( There's a clip of it on youtube if you guys wanna watch https://youtu.be/f03ORPsvGvs

hmmm... I completely don't agree with your statement. The voices of iKON have improved throughout the years. In addition, Lee Hi, Su Hyun from AKMU, and Winner are still vocally great. So, I think the artists themselves play a bigger part on how they will sing, and not entirely due to a 'force change' by YG. In Rose's case, I think there more factors for her voice to changed than solely it being due to YG. It could be due to maturity or the recording of her singing pre-debut was edited to make it sound lower. Because now, her vocal tone completely change to being nasally and squeaky than it being clear and soulful, which you can't say that changed with other YG artists like Lee Hi, June, and Seungyoon.

I love it everytime Kevin gets excited about Lee Hi haha. I'm really looking forward for the next episode. The boys acting so gentle and cute with the girls. You will also notice how Hanbin and Lee Hi have similar personalities... Their chemistry is amazing. Hanbin said in his recent vlive that if an opportunity comes.. He would collaborate with Lee Hi again.. I really hope it happens. As for Hana... Bobby sort of like her... But now i think more of a sister.. He calls her "bro" lol and he promoted her song because she is now in a different label. Suhyun is still with YG and is just waiting for her brother to finish military. Lee Hi is coming back this year and i hope it's around the same time as iKON's comeback as well so we can see interaction from them. 😊😘💜

Completely agree with your thoughts, they all did well! but just wanted to let you know that Hanbin never trained as leader either. If anything it was something he honed himself as a result of trying to debut and achieve his dreams. Rather than being assigned as leader as a trainee like what we saw YG do for Team A during WIN, Hanbin naturally became the leader of Team B without any true assignment. Interesting enough, although I do believe certain traits were innate in him, I believe most of the leadership traits were honed and grew through his experiences as a YG trainee because his mum said she was surprised to see how responsible and leaderlike he was during WIN.

the university the malfunction happened at wasn't the one that "protested" .. It was Myongji University that was controversial, the university they performed a day later at and there was an article released later where they showed that the controversy wasn't a known issue to those who attended and the audience from the fancams thoroughly enjoyed and was hyped during iKON"s performance
