It might not seem like it but Jin is my bias, and this song is the reason that I became an ARMY. It holds a really special place in my heart. I was super happy Kevin said he loved the song, knowing that slow songs aren’t really his favorite😭 Srsly, you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to this song. Thank you so so much🙏 This is going to be another long comment. I just hope you guys don’t hate me for that.

As you guys already know, Jin used to be the most underrated member of BTS. He barely got lines in their songs (even the song he wrote himself) and ppl used to think of him as the ‘useless’ member based on his singing and dancing skills. He used to be very shy and quite. He wasn’t confident at all. Yet he never gave up and always worked so hard to improve himself, and still doing it until this day. After the ‘Fire’ era when he became more energetic and started cracking jokes around, the reason was because he wanted to become a positive energy for the group. Although he gain a lot more fans who like that side of him now, some ppl still think of him as just a silly hyung who likes to act childish and a burden to the group cuz he still couldn’t match the others’ talents. Awake is the first BTS song that made me cry after reading the translations and knowing Jin’s background. This song is basically him telling us that, he knows he can’t become that good. He knows he’s not talented. Still, he wants to dream, he wants fight more so that he can proudly stand beside and support the other members. “Maybe I can never fly. I can’t fly like the flower petals over there or as though I have wings.” This line means he has wings just like the others but he can’t fly as high. The flower petals represent the other members as he also stated in the line “Even so, I clutch six flower petals in my hands.”
