Thanks for watching another episode! One thing this episode emphasizes and I really admire throughout the show because it's rare to see is how human the villain is. Most shows/movies/stories try to make the villains out to be complete monsters with whom it's impossible for the audience to empathize with. However, while Hap is certainly a monster and it's clear from the beginning, the writers also go to great lengths to humanize him too. We see this in his conversation with his "colleague" at the hospital morgue, his passion for the work and rejection of the fame & glory the colleague is after. Hap is pursuing knowledge. That's a very noble human trait. He also exhibits fear and panic and is willing to throw away his current experiment to escape with Prairie and use the first two movements. And he makes very human mistakes, like leaving his door open and falling asleep in front of his monitors, as we see in the final scene when the sheriff arrives. I just think it's very cool to see a show go to such lengths in developing the personality and character of what could easily be a completely abstracted, cartoonish villain and turn him into a human we can all, on some level, relate to.
