I have to admit that I went to the end and watched your review and next I'll go back and watch the reaction. BUT I just needed to make sure that you guys knew that West Side Story IS just a retelling of Romeo and Juliet so all of the plot devices came from whatever Shakespeare was inspired by or whoever the guy Shakespeare stole the plays of was inspired by. Now, in saying that, I could be completely wrong and you may have addressed that but just needed to say it. I'll have to find time to watch your reaction :)

Here's a fun fact: In both movie adaptations of West Side Story (1961 and 2021), the actress who played Anita took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress - Rita Moreno in 1961 and Ariana DeBose here in 2021. In this version, they changed Tony's boss at the drugstore from a man to a woman so they could have Rita Moreno appear in this movie. And she's still got it - her song was the only one that was recorded live on set during filming. It might be fun to look up some of the numbers from the original movie on YouTube; I think the Dance at the Gym sequence in the original had much better, more interesting choreography. And I tell you what, the America number was really great in different ways in both of them.
