(Disclaimer: Please don't read for the video :D) Oooh I can't wait to re-watch this and cry :D

This episode is honestly one of my favorites. It had a clear love and respect for Vincent Van Gogh and his art and you can tell the writers were passionate about expressing that here. The scene in which Amy and the Doctor show Vincent how his art is viewed in modern day was honestly beautiful and one of my favorite moments from the entire show. There are so many famous people gone too soon that I would have loved to show how their work has impacted people in 2023. Imagine showing Walt Disney what his company accomplished over the years or showing Jim Henson what has been done with the Muppets today. Just seeing their reactions would be incredible. I’d like to ask you guys something: if you could bring a celebrity who passed away (whether it’s an actor, musician, artist, politician, etc) to the present day and show them the massive impact they made, who would you choose?

I just knew you guys would have the best reaction to this, and you didn't disappoint. I really think they demonstrated Van Gogh's bipolar/depression really well here, and really set it in it's time. People didn't understand it then so he was considered a madman. Talking of mental illness, to me that's why it was important to make the monster invisible here. Well, invisible to all but Vincent himself. Because that's often how mental illness feels, like we are battling a monster that only we can see. So let's address the elephant in the room that every US reaction channel mentions is the pronunciation of his last name. In the US he's Van GO (like opposite of stop), in England and some other english speaking countries he's Van Goff, in Scotland we pronounce the GH of Gogh like the German CH in Ich (a gutteral sound). I know you have family in Germany and visiting there soon so I wonder if they pronounce Gogh the same way as the Scots. The writer of this episode, Richard Curtis wrote Notting Hill, Bridget Jones (screenplay), Love Actually which explains the Bill Nighy casting as the Van Gogh expert. This episode is definitely a fan favorite, and 100% in my top 5 episodes. I've seen it several times and it always makes me tear up. The funny thing is I tear up earlier and earlier each time in anticipation. Very soon I'll probably just start blabbing at the BBC logo at the start lol.

I love this episode. I'm very torn between this and The Girl in the Fireplace as my favorite episode and both make me well up every time. I absolutely adore when this show turns into a dark, historical fairytale (with space monsters). Interestingly, TGITF was written by Steven Moffet, who is the showrunner for this current season and era. I have to say, that although Tennant is my favorite Doctor, I think Moffet's storytelling style might be my favorite. One thing I do enjoy about Matt Smith in the role and in this episode in particular, is that he does a really good job of fading int the background in the scenes that are more about Amy and Vincent. Being able to give focus to other characters and only pull focus at the correct moments is an underrated skill that makes for great ensemble actors and Smith does it flawlessly in this less Doctor centric episode.

Jeremy Burch

This was a very good episode, I loved everything they did with Vincent Van Gogh and the actor Tony Curran did a great job. I became a fan of him because of this episode, I hadn't really seen him in anything before this but I've seen him in a fair amount of things since and every time I see him, I think Doctor Who. Watching Amy continue to not remember Rory on the surface but deep down still remember she lost someone is very sad. Great reaction, I look forward to the next one, which I enjoyed a lot as well.
