Hi Patrons,

Weigh in on what you want the rule to be for a new show voted for the monthly new show poll!

We will let this run until Friday and then post results.

If the majority votes for the new show to get one month guaranteed into rotation- we will replace the 10th place show with Kimmy for this month.

Thanks!

This is tough because the current 10th place show has only three or four episodes left in the series. Would that then get the slower pace finish?

REALTALKREACTIONS

Yes. Since it was in rotation last month - it would be considered then at the slower rotation and we would finish up the season/series :)

Since this is for an overall thing and not just for one month (I'm assuming) one thing I do is ask myself, if this were another show would that affect my vote. For instance, I kind of prefer Kimmy to Derry Girls which does not interest me at all. Yes, I'd want Kimmy to go in that slot. However, if it was Scrubs (which I do like and I believe came 11th) were in the number 10 slot and a show like Ted Lasso Season 3 were the voted upon show (which I don't care for) would it be fair to put my feelings for Scrubs aside so that Ted Lasso gets more of a chance, actually yes. So, I'd vote for yes in that case. It's not really about the current current show that the question is being asked for So, just phrase the question not so much as: Will I lose out on Derry Girls (or any particular show) if I vote yes? And more so Would I want an opportunity to see more of a show that I personally wanted to vote in in the future were that to happen or would I be happy with it just being that month? That's one of the things I'm working on right now in my own life, and I think the pulse poll results were a jolt to that, it's not all about me and what I want in life but about appreciating the opportunity and the possibility. I'm not trying to pass judgement, I'm just explaining my thoughts

I've often wondered about other people's pulse/voting styles. I think I've noticed a trend where some things don't get pulsed into rotation until they're at the very end of the season to keep it going. If that was happening, the new changes will likely make that strategy harder to bring to fruition. Personally, I vote almost yes or no based on if I would watch a reaction or not. Ones I think I will watch get a five, ones I don't have an interest in get a one. But there's no wrong way to vote in a poll. And most likely, the audience preferences are more varied, so for some of the more recent content voted in has a harder time maintaining support in the pulse.

very true. I only just started voting again in Pulse polls but I've noticed that too. I do have to wonder whether the 30 Rock being in the 20s is due to Alec Baldwin. It could also be because of what the top show is. or top shows. I need to watch Always Sunny more often. I've enjoyed all the reactions I've seen of it but it's more like I see a funny clip off of YouTube and think to myself, has RTR reacted to that particular episode yet. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken a LOT of the shows that are on the list are either more dramas (such as Better Call Saul, Succession, or Cobra Kai), quirky or they are British/related to Britain (yes, only Derry Girls and Ted Lasso but you go through 11-20 and you see some others in this). That, to me, is because of the huge overlap of those fans and the fans of Doctor Who. As, you can see The Office also dropped in rank and I think this is because of the changes coming soon to The Office and without spoilers, we are in Season 7. The Office would have raised the voting scores of things like Scrubs (which I wish I had given a 5, I think I gave it a 3 but I really wish I had given it a 5 so it would have more chance of being number 10), Abbott, etc. What is most interesting to me and I don't know for sure is that nearly everything got closer to a 2 than a 3. That seems to indicate the majority of shows got a 1 more often than they got a 5. People want to see specific shows (like it sounds with you and Derry Girls to make that assumption) so they have been voting a lot more 1s so their show gets through.

I just treat them all as yes or no and they get a one or a five. I assumed those low averages are because others do the same and the tastes have become more varied. I'm pretty sure things like Ted Lasso, Derry Girls, and Fleabag had enough viewership and acclaim in the US that they would be in the running regardless. I think the Doctor Who audience might give other UK shows a slight boost, just because of proximity. But just in my own personal experience, I've found it's a pretty genre specific fandom that would mostly be looking for other sci-fi/fantasy rather than just UK shows. Although, it probably is why Broadchurch pulses as high as it does despite being a totally different genre, because there's a TON of overlap between the casts and creative teams. Generally, I'm a fan of high-quality sitcoms and prestige dramas, so I have RTR reactions to watch on average four or five days a week regardless of which combo is currently getting voted highest.

As someone British who lives in the United States and worked eons in customer service/retail I will disagree with you about the Doctor Who take. I had numerous people suggest shows to me just because I'm British and they watch "British shows" Also, none of my American friends have even heard of Fleabag, Ted Lasso, definitely. Derry Girls, not really, maybe. But not Fleabag I'm not meaning offense at that, I just wholly have to disagree with you

Jojo77

I get you. No offense would be taken. We all have different experiences. I would say that among my US peers, Fleabag is absolutely revered. But most of my social circle comes from a performing arts background, which I admit is a niche demographic. Fleabag also nearly swept at the Emmys its second season and Hollywood seems to currently be embracing PWB like it did Olivia Colman a couple of years before that, so at least the industry in the US definitely took notice of Fleabag. But my small sampling of folks and people in the industry are sometimes out of step with the overall audience. That being said, I'd be annoyed if people were telling me to watch Gavin and Stacey because I liked Shetland or Broadchurch or if I told them how funny I found Stath Lets Flats or The Inbetweeners and they recommended Keeping Up Appearances. Or worse yet, if I lived abroad and they assumed that meant I would like the Kardashians or Marvel movies. So, I empathize with you there. And I just remembered that Fleabag was sponsored as well, so you may be right about its reach overall being less broad.

Oh, and I agree that there could be some Alec Baldwin bias working against 30 Rock. He's been controversial long before he accidentally shot someone or played Trump on SNL, which is a shame because 30 Rock is some of the most high quality situational comedy out there.

Speaking as someone who consistently nominates shows that never win the initial poll - if one of my shows finally won and then got immediately deprioritized because it didn't win a second poll, I would be significantly bummed about that.

Fay K

It looks like The InBetweeners won so there is, it looks like, a British sway

Jojo77

Observing YouTube, I almost think there is a pack of InBetweeners fans that roves around and gets it voted into various channels. lol. It gets reacted to a lot for a 15ish-year old, three season, UK comedy. I've seen more reactions to it than to The Office UK, which is slightly surprising based on the level of awareness of those two shows in the US.
