I absolutely adore this episode. It's another one of these stories where humanity is actually the bad guy here, not any alien threat, which is always refreshing. For me Liz 10 was an instantly likeable character. It was such a cool concept to see how the Royal family would have to adapt and modernize to the point the Queen runs around with guns shooting at the bad guys lol. I also liked the call back to the Queen Victoria episode with the Werewolves, as well as referencing some other royal adventures that we haven't seen (drinking buddies with Henry XII). I don't know if you guys are Star Wars fans but there was a whole bunch of Star Wars references or easter eggs in this episode. The 3 I picked up on is when Liz 10 say's "Help us Doctor, you're our only hope" mirroring the message Princess Leia gives to Obi Wan. Then there was the scene with them in the whale mouth which is similar to space slug scene. Finally, toward the end there a transition between two scenes that is not typical of Doctor Who but is exactly like the Star Wars "Lucas" transitions.

Thanks for the reaction guys. I'm so happy you seem to be warming up to The 11th Doctor so quickly. You got to see a little bit more his personality in this episode. I really love how much energy he has and how happy he is. But, then you also got to see a glimpse of how angry he gets. He is such an exciting Doctor to watch because of his pure expressions of emotions. Also, like others have mentioned Amy is my favorite companion but we can discuss that at a later time. RJ, although it is still Doctor Who and we still get a lot of alien craziness, I have always thought a lot of the corniness of the previous seasons was dropped and it all plays a bit more seriously now.

Great reaction! Like you said — there’s always an adjustment period for the new companion and this season and episode is VERY efficient at taking Amy through all the beats. You have Amy realizing the Tardis is bigger on the inside, Amy freaking out about being in a spaceship, Amy learning that the Doctor is really old, Amy learning that the Doctor isn’t even human, and Amy learning that the Doctor is the last of his kind. And it’s all done so naturally that it doesn’t feel forced at all. Always liked this episode. It’s always good to remember that the United Kingdom and Earth never know which Doctor they’re going to get. For all we know Winston Churchill and Liz 10 are familiar with the fourth, fifth, tenth and eleventh doctors for instance. We know a lot of governments and people keep track of the Doctor’s many faces! Last thing: it was really awesome seeing Matt Smith rage at everyone (when he said “nobody human has anything to say to me today”). As quirky and odd as his Doctor is, he can snap into angry Time Lord mode at the drop of a hat. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

This was a great episode and a great reaction. Just imagine finding out this being, the last of its kind came to rescue you and you tortured it for almost 300 years, when you had no reason to, man the choices they made. It was great getting to see Matt Smith run the the gambit of emotions, from funny and quirky to anger and betrayal in just his second episode of the show, as well as the Doctor and Amy connecting so much, so quickly. I'm glad your both enjoying the new Doctor and new Companion so far, I look forward to the next one.
