Damn! You know a movie is amazing when it makes RJ cry!

Reactions, when they're done extremely well, are more than just evaluations, they're emotional reflections of the story. For me, RTR's reaction was a beautiful reflection of 'The Whale.' This came through in nearly every comment about the food literally being Charlie's intentional death. Comments like "Is he trying to die?" and "Two pizzas, not one, even the pizza man is worried." and "He's trying to kill himself." at the binging captured this so well. Liz, the medical caregiver friend that both wants to save him, but also surrenders to enable the death. After all, the only part of her brother that she had left, was Charlie, so the trauma was doubly difficult for her. This reaction captured and conveyed Liz's part in this tragedy very well. The missionary, Thomas, represented the weight of the oppression of the world, weighing on Charlie, feeling guilt, feeling the shame that Charlie should never have had to feel. IMHO, religion is the greatest evil ever invented by mankind. Thomas, no matter how well-intentioned, represents that evil. For me, the 'discomfort' that was conveyed the reactors, spoke volumes. And Charlie's ex-wife, Mary, reflected Charlie's true goodness, and also his failure to live up to it. But, Charlie's students were the benefactors of his goodness. Even Dan, the pizza man's sympathy for Charlie, was so touching. All of these connections were brought out so well in this reaction. The discomfort on the reactor faces as Ellie (the daughter) challenges Charlie and the horror when she drugs her father were stark. I liked the nervousness exhibited at JRabbit commenting the teenage daughters are worse (it's mostly true). "She's just SO MUCH!" but it was her hyper-intelligent mind just trying to learn and/or manipulate, help and/or hurt. It WAS REVEALED in the faces of JRabbit and RJ that the daughter was only hurt into being a monster, but really wasn't a monster at all when the hurt was taken away. TAKING AWAY THAT HURT WAS WHAT CHARLIE'S LIFE WAS FOR. (RJ comment: "That's THE Part!) And of course the Mobby Dick essay, being the stand-in representation for all the sorrow that was felt... every aspect of the whale impacting the daughter being conveyed in every pure, heart-felt emotion JRabbit and even RJ, yes RJ! reflected through this exceptional reaction (As an aside, I especially appreciated parting comment RJ made about the US health care failing people like poor Charlie too) Thank You Guys - IMHO, this reaction is GREAT, TRULY, TRULY GREAT!
