At this point in this season, with Steve's fate in the air, I realized I had very clear opinions on which characters I loved most because I was just like, no! Anyone but Steve, Dustin or Robin. Kill Mike. Kill Jonathan. You can have Murray, but spare Steve. lol. Tangentially, I just feel a need to shout out the comedic duo of Ryder and Gelman. I would totally watch a whole movie of the two of them getting in over their heads all over the world. Lastly, all season my true crime heart kept being distracted by the thought of the West Memphis Three during the whole Eddie story line. (Three metal loving teens spent almost 20 years in prison on a wrongful conviction for the murder of three little boys because of satanic panic.) It turns out that was intentional as the Duffer brothers did use the so-called ringleader of that trio Damien Echols as part of the inspiration for the character of Eddie. I mention this because that is such a sad real-life case that everyone should know about because the state of Arkansas is still refusing to pursue new leads in finding the actual killer, and also because it is a very compelling example of how we need to be aware of mob mentality and not be afraid to question the justice system. For more information I would refer people to the HBO documentary Paradise Lost as an entry point. Trigger warning for real crime scene video in the first five or ten minutes. This was another great episode, it had a lot of funny moments, everything with Suzie's family, Murray is funny as usual and Max with the binoculars staring at Steve. I'm liking the burgeoning friendships of Robin and Nancy and Hopper and Enzo. I also loved that moment with Lucas and Max, where he told her he sees her, that was great. Also, here comes the mob mentality I was worried about with Jason and the town. Great reaction, I look forward to the next one.
