I so enjoyed your reaction to this episode -- delighted that you like it as much as I do. There's a whole epic story about that dress! The costume supervisor and Dan Levy both wanted it for Moira, but it cost half the budget for the episode. Finally they decided that no other dress would do. But then they discovered that the New York stores that had it, were not allowed to ship it out of the country (remember, the show shoots in Canada). So they flew their buyer to NYC -- they also had to buy the special suitcase that would transport the dress safely back -- they got a broker to handle the customs paperwork and to be on call in case it was stopped at the border -- the city got hit with a big snowstorm just as the buyer arrived -- the store stayed open for her, but she had to get a hotel room for the night, which nobody had planned on. So you can imagine all the extra expenses that this added up to. Fortunately, when they got it to the set, it fit Catherine O'Hara perfectly without any alteration, and she loved it. And the rest of the cast hadn't seen it in advance, so the reactions from Alexis and Johnny were real: that was the actors' genuine amazement.
