This is one of my very favorite episodes from the early seasons. Everything about it hits the target, my definite favorite being the "red wine" conversation. I also love seeing that, in the end, Moira and Johnny fit into the backyard Hawaiian party perfectly well -- they may not have had Aloha shirts, but they made a good try with their "tropical" white suits. Not to mention jumping right in on that joint. Ted can be a puzzling character; I'm still not sure if he was feeling jealous about Alexis & Mutt, or is just really bad about catching undercurrents in a conversation. He does seem to be very innocent in some ways -- in the part of the scene you missed because you were both laughing about RJ missing the metaphor :):) he was talking about how he ordered showrooms of furniture for his house, and mail-orders his meals.

RJ's absolute himbo energy had me dying. He is a very literal person so he just didn't catch the metaphors. I agree with DelGuy03 that Ted is a little himbo himself too where he is just not sure what's going on so he's asking because he wants to know. I think that it was really great that instead of having close minded people in the small town Schitt's Creek portrays Roland as the one telling Johnny that he just has to love his son no matter who he chooses to love. Dan Levy (creator of the show and also David) said in an interview that he felt like small towns got a bad rep sometimes and he didn't his to be the bad stereotype.

I think Ted was being passively aggressively jealous and was aware of it myself. Cornering her in a group seemed very intentional. He's sweet, but he's not stupid. David's metaphor is great. And RJ's literal interpretation was pricelessly endearing. If you ever want to hear about the Levys being a wonderful and supportive family, Dan did a great episode of David Tennant does a Podcast With, in which he talks about coming out. Johnny is also very sweet in his confusion and concern but acceptance of David's sexuality. That being said, the "talk" scene with the kids just reminds me of American Pie. I mean, they're getting with the locals, but neither of them is getting with baked goods at least.
