One of my favorite details in this episode links back to the pilot, where Kaylee made a comment to Mal about how they still haven't replaced "that crappy compression coil." And then in this episode, the compression coil was what caused all the trouble because it still hadn't been replaced...

I absolutely love this episode so much. Each characters' introduction is perfect, and they bring a good boy of levity to an otherwise dramatic episode. Mal is such a badass here, taking control when he needs to, but showing consideration and sympathy when he can. I love his line at the end, asking if the crew will be there when he wakes up. It just shows how much he cares for his crew. Love this episode, love your reaction.
