Oh dear. I did not realize you had an 11 year old. Sorry for the emotional trauma. Although, if murder mysteries are your wheelhouse, I'm glad you're getting to see this one. I'm sure there are quite a few other that would agree that this is the best one, certainly of the last 10 years. I was an acting major in college and worked in theater for a long time and every actor I know ADORES this one. It's serious actor porn. It's also wonderful because most of the actors are best known for things in the sci fi/fantasy realm and it's great to see them excel with this gritty realism. This show it laden with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones folks. The HTGAWM kid was actually Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter movies and the old dude from both HP (Filch) and GOT (Walder Frey) is one of three actors in this show who have actually played the titular Doctor in Doctor Who (the others being David Tennant/DI Hardy, and Danny's mum Beth is actually the current Doctor). And of course Olivia Colman is a human treasure of an actor who has since won the Oscar for The Favourite and played the current Queen Elizabeth on The Crown. I'm sure that in no time she'll be Dame Olivia Colman. One thing I love about this show compared to most shows in this genre is that it is so sunny and beautiful to look at. The gorgeous cinematography contrasting with the subject matter is both hypnotic and striking. Hope it's a good one for you and not too upsetting. Thanks so much.

I think this show is so well done, the acting, writing and directing is intense and gripping. Normally I wouldn't have watched this show because I really don't like shows or movies were kids die, but I am a huge fan of David Tennant (the detective) at the time from Doctor Who, and nowJessica Jones and other things, Jodie Whittaker (the mom) from Attack the Block and now Doctor Who and other things as well as Arthur Darvill (the priest) at the time from Doctor Who and now Legends of Tomorrow and other things. I'm glad those actors drew me into the show because I think it was well worth watching.
