Would've probably cleared up a few things, but it doesn't really matter, because this movie does a great job of explaining everything you need to know without you having to see the 1st one or watch the prequel short movies. This is probably my favorite movie of the 2010s, and of of the best sequels of all time. It's such a beautifully crafted on every level: Writing, directing, cinematography & visual effects (for which it actually won Oscars for), and the score. And amazing performances by the entire cast. Just a really breathtaking experience. I was glad I got to see it in theaters.

And yes, Harrison Ford and Sean Young (Rachael) both reprised their roles from the first movie, as well as the old blade runner Joe interviewed about Deckard at the retirement home who was making the origami figures. Those 3 are returning characters from the 1st Blade Runner. But the woman leading the replicant rebellion wasn't. She's a new character.
