Pam's indecisiveness is something she recognizes later on and tries to change but that is what is causing her current problems. As for Michael, it's easy to see in this episode why he was such a great salesman that he won the top salesman in the company one year and he got promoted to manager. It's because of his people skills and how he will try to develop a friendship with you as a way of guiding you into making him your paper supplier. Throughout the seasons you'll see different styles of his sales technique, some which I applied when working in retail and some that might test your own stupidity. It's something that you don't know you're seeing in Michael until the scenes with the client. As for Threat Level Midnight, it is the great lost film of Michael Scott for sure ;)

as awkward, weird, and obnoxious as michael can be, he is truly all about the people. theres a great youtube video you guys should check out after the series that highlights why michael doesnt fit in with the cold, corporate culture and how he struggles adapting to it. he *genuinely* cares about everyone. he loves making connections with people which makes him a great "old school" salesman. its why i love him so much. like Fae said, he has been top salesperson of the year a couple times and promoted to manager for a reason. this is the first episode that we catch a glimpse of that. again, like Fae said, michael's sales techniques and actual people skills become showcased a bit more often in the later seasons - though still rarely. as always, loved the reaction! cant wait for more.

Definitely nice to see competent Michael.

Finally, Michael gets to show off his super power! Also great take on Pam trying to have her cake and eat it too. THANKS GUYS!

This episode shows to me that while Michael is a great salesperson, he is a terrible manager. Him being in the spotlight and the focus of the camera crew causes his arrogance to override his good qualities. I don't think Pam is consciously doing what she is but yes, she's clearly unhappy in her relationship and doesn't have the courage to end it. It's sad because you can clearly see how much she cares about Jim, even though her indecisiveness is hurting him. At the same time, Jim does know she's in a relationship, so I won't put all the blame on Pam.
