I love how many jokes in this show are funny because of what they imply; like when Annie says, "You guys never let me rap with you!" it implies that they rap together in the apartment ALL THE TIME and also that Annie wants to join in but for some reason she's not allowed. It's just such a weird detail to indirectly discover about their lives and at the same time, it's 100% in character for all of them.

As you noted, this show has thrown some shade at Glee before - but this? THIS is peak Glee shade. And, as usual, Community does a brilliant job of executing the trope while simultaneously pulling it apart at the seams; the recruitment songs (all of which are original to the show, a nice contrast to Glee itself) all get to the heart of what makes various characters tick. (My personal favorite is Shirley's - let's just say I have family members who would have reacted exactly the same way she did.) Also: "Ugh, Britta's in this?"

Coming in late to say, as a former Jehovah's Witness, Troy's rap, "Jehovah's most secret witness" kills me every single time. It's so fucking brilliant.
