Such a dark episode for Katara. She's probably the kindest and most forgiving person on the show. Seeing her lose it like she did was super intense! There were several shots of the full moon the night when they attacked the ship, which is why she could Bloodbend. She couldn't do it on the actual killer even if she wanted to. Next episode is the penultimate episode. You probably won't see it coming, but it's a super enjoyable episode to get you ready for the final four. See you guys then!

A lot of the fandom gets really mad at Katara during this episode. She is so angry with Zuko at the start because she had to say goodbye to her father. "The Fire Nation can't separate our family again." So even though time has past and she's seen him earn Sokka and Aang's trust it reopens her wounds. And then they get angry with what she says to Sokka about their mother. It was awful. But the audience should know that Katara is a good person and a good sister. She does that and the bloodbending (yes there was a full moon) to illustrate what Aang says, "Revenge is like a two headed rat viper. While your enemy is going down, you're being poisoned yourself." It shows the depth and emotional maturity of the show. Katara's character is tested increasingly with the Jet, Puppetmaster, and Southern Raider episodes. We see her anger was seething under the surface this whole time. Zuko's redemption arc works while others fail because it wasn't a straight line, here we see that he's not a totally new person. He still has things to learn and his character arc is very much about learning the meaning of forgiveness as well as Katara's is who to blame for the hurts done to us. Also Zuko's story works because he doesn't act entitled to forgiveness. He earns it.
