To put this episode in context, Community aired on the same night and network as The Office and Parks and Rec, and debuted in the same year as Modern Family. So, being the show that it was, Community definitely had to do a mockumentary-style episode at some point, and of course, they did what Community does: highlighted all the flaws of the trope, while still using it flawlessly to tell a character-driven story that also included Troy staring silently at LeVar Burton for an extended period of time.
