Every time they show the Takeshi and Quellcrist flashbacks I sit up in my chair. I don't dislike the modern period murder mystery at all but I'm honestly far more interested in the history of the Envoys, Tak's childhood, and what Tak went through with Quell. As for this episode, I loved the exploration of what the Stacks mean culturally for Latinx people, like for Day of the Dead. I also liked them exploring what the Stacks mean for religions and giving different perspectives from people who have different levels of faith or piety. On one extreme, you have Ortega who's hardcore pro-Stack and is extra loud about it. On the other side, you have her mom who's hardcore anti-Stack and wants to force her whole family to be the same way. Then in the middle you have Ortega's partner, Samir. Samir understands and respects Ortega's mom's position even if he doesn't really agree. He says notably that religion must evolve with the times and very clearly has reconciled his Islamic beliefs about the soul with the new status quo that the Stacks provide.
