now THIS is what we've been waiting for this season! I feel like we've really gotten to know this version of the Doctor, Clara has really developed into one of the strongest companions we've ever had on the show, and BOOM! Everything changes. Clara's life has been ripped from her, and all of that training she's being doing with the Doctor has unleashed itself in the most dangerous of ways. But.... that's what has given us this other side of the Doctor. Clara is so vulnerable at this moment, that the Doctor has no choice but to peel apart this harsh abrasive exterior he's been wearing, and has to have that moment of humanity to make Clara feel safe. Although, I do question if the Doctor is making a wise decision here (well, given how events played out so far, we know obviously not). He is playing with fire! He saw what happened when Rose tried to save her father, he was there when Amy and Rory created a paradox to beat the Weeping Angels, he almost turned into the Timelord Victorious when he tried to save Abigail Brooks in the Water of Mars. Surely he knew that playing with life and death like this wouldn't lead to a positive outcome. Well I made no secret of it that Capaldi is my favorite iteration of the Doctor. I now introduce Michelle Gomez as my favorite iteration of the Master/Mistress. I mean, I could be massively biased since they are both Scottish, but I think it's just that they play off each other so well. I won't say more since it's verging into spoiler territory, all I'll say if John Sims Master was insane, Michelle Gomez's master is CUCKOO! One final tidbit for you, this episode received the most complaints to the UK's Office of Communication (OFCOM) of any episode since it's 2005 revival. The public really did not like the idea that the consciousness of our dearly departed could feel what was happening to their bodies. It has to be said, that Steven Moffat wasn't trying to be cruel, he had after all just lost his own mother during this seasons pre-production. He really just wanted to explore themes of death, and maybe he was in a dark place himself at the time, but this was the end result.

This is a great episode, I always look forward to reactions for this episode. Seeing the Missy/Master reveal, the Cybermen reveal, the great acting from from Peter and Jenna. When she was throwing the keys in the volcano, his whole dialogue about her betrayal and how he cares about her more than that betrayal. I feel like in that scene you can really feel how deep their friendship and respect for each other is, it was a really great scene. I was definitely shocked by that opening, I was also worried that they kept letting us hear and see the traffic but when the woman picked up the phone, I was just thinking, no, no, they did not just kill Danny, I really like Danny. I really like Missy, I think she's great, I don't know if I can say I love her more than John Simm as the Master but I don't know if I can say I love him more than Michelle Gomez as the Master/Missy, so I guess I will just have to say their tied for my favorite. Great reaction I look forward to the finale.
