This is late but that pilot reaction hit me with all the feels. Thank you both for that. Still happy to have won that EP spot. And I'm even happier this show is now in rotation. I'm very biased but in my opinion, this show is one of those special ones that really burrows into your heart and stays there. I had seen the movie before the show but the movie wasn't for me so it took me a while to give this a chance. And I only gave it a chance because I was a fan of Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) from an old 90s show called Early Edition. I fell in love with the characters pretty fast, I think. Especially the Taylors and Matt. The performances and the writing combine to make them feel like real people you want to root for. And the town of Dillon felt like a real town you could drive to. Apparently the show tried to shoot as many scenes as possible in real life locations in and around Austin, including just using actual stores with their actual employees in the scenes. And the houses they shot in were actual homes people lived in, no sets and not much dressing needed. I had that same question about how much story they could tell around football since I didn't really care about it. And the answer is this show is not about football. It's about the characters -- their goals and ambitions, their relationships with each other and how they live in this "Devil Town" that's obsessed with football. ("Devil Town" is the song that plays at the end of this episode which is basically the show's theme song). Looking forward to seeing the next one!
