I had a bunch of honey scribble-sketches lying around, so I tidied some up

1.) cluster of doodles, featuring honey trying to get her college queer-friendly neoconservative organization off the ground. It’s not going well, the only people interested in signing up aren’t so queer-friendly, it turns out

(maybe summer will swing by and steal a lemon bar to scarf)

2.) keep your filthy fucking paws away from skye’s handsome man-some, homewrecker

3-4.) Honey, feeling eternally lonely and misunderstood, reaches out to her estranged older brothers, Topher and Toffee. Both are her father’s sons from his previous marriage, both have long fallen out of his good graces. Merry never made any attempt to bridge his two families and was content to largely abandon his boys and old life to marry Honey’s mother. And so they very much resent him, resent his new wife, and (in Topher’s case), resent Honey.

Toffee, the eldest brother, is a kindly theological scholar. He never found it in himself to abandon his faith, instead founding a small church of his own that welcomes and accepts people of all sexualities and gender identities, removing sermons of judgment and damnation and instead focusing on teaching love and aiding the poor. Toffee is close with his little brother and often calls on him for help within his church.

Topher, the younger brother, has completely rejected their childhood religion. He claims to be an anarchist, but this is a lie, really he’s entirely focused on taking down unjust social hierarchies and institutions. He is often frustrated with the inefficiency of progressive politics and advocates for total social revolution on his radio show. He’s often rude and doesn’t give a single shit about playing nice with fascists. Respect trans kids or Topher will beat you with a baseball bat.

Topher is all-too-aware of Honey’s smug antagonistic online personality, and has many things to say he’s been waiting to say to her.

As always I love your characters, worldbuilding, and storytelling. It's interesting how Merry's children are all queer, and either don't follow his religious standards properly, or outright refuse to practice said religion in the case of Topher, how unfortunate for a fake-nice bigot such as himself.... I wonder, was that part of the reason he threw his first two kids/first marriage to the side so quickly? One last (failed) chance to have a "good traditional marriage" and sire a straight kid? Bleh I feel a little gross just typing this out, but I wouldn't put it past Merry from what we know about him so far.

Thank you! I imagine Merry did see “the signs” of queerness in his elder teen son Toffee (soft-spoken, empathetic and caring, uninterested in sports) and was making efforts to correct this, forcing chubby, noncompetitive Toffee into aggressive team sports, trying to steer him toward girls, etc. Toffee tried to endure it all, but was clearly miserable, and Merry was about a step away from sending him off to one of those “camps” that promised to turn little sissy boys into manly men. After all, Toffee needed to have all that degeneracy wrung out of him if he was going to take over Merry’s church some day. But then Merry met his foxy young new assistant Maple and began a whirlwind affair with her, ultimately abandoning his family to marry her. This left Toffee to ponder which was worse, being the constant object of his father’s disdainful scrutiny, or watching his father turn 100% of his attention over to his new wife and baby. Toffee feels relief, but it’s mixed in with pain, a feeling like somehow this was all his fault. Topher was often overlooked by Merry, as he was never very athletic and didn’t get good grades like Toffee did. Merry reprimanded him here and there, but was far more focused on fixing his embarrassment of an older son, which meant Topher became more and more rebellious trying to catch his father’s attention. Topher was furious (and secretly devastated) when their father left. Merry meanwhile tries not to think about his sons any more than he strictly has to, he is quite content now with his hot new wife and loyal, dutiful daughter. He’s gentler with Honey than he was with his boys, a sort of benevolent sexism. He assures her her lesbianism is just a phase some girls go through, she’ll be happy when she finally lands a good husband and has a few puppies of her own. Between Toffee (gay), Topher (pansexual hedonist), and Honey (“just a little confused” in Merry’s opinion), Merry would like to walk SOMEBODY down the aisle before he dies (and he really wants Honey to make him a grandpa)

are we gonna see Toffee and Topher's mother? Merry's unfaithfulness (lol) during their marriage makes me feel sorry for the poor lady (I'm also high-key hoping she found love again)

Probably not, unfortunately. :/ Normally I would, but I have SO many dog characters already. Skye, Sunny, Shadow, Summer, Soup, Snowball, Saint, Strawberry, Gigi, Honey, Merry, Maple, Toffee, Topher, Biscuit, Buddy…..gaaah. So many dogs! And so many of them need further fleshing out. It’s not a good use of time to whip up a story and design for yet another dog. Toffee and Topher’s mom is a class act, a tough and tiny lady that managed to raise decent boys with barely any help from Merry. Rather than draw her, I’d rather explore the sibling relationships between Honey, Topher, and Toffee.
