When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm~

more wistful winter art. i tried to watch a christmas movie in the backyard today....it was muggy and i got devoured by mosquitoes. >:C *cries in Floridian*

Perry is a cold weather critter and loves wintertime. I imagine he woke up, saw it was snowing, then ran into the backyard and dove face-first into a snowdrift. Tibbs meanwhile took his time getting up and dressing warmly, and has now fished his idiot husband out of the snow for kisses, breakfast, and cocoa dusted with cinnamon~

Question time!!! How does attraction between different animal species work? Is Perry attracted to Tibbs in the way he'd be attracted to another lynx? Of course they're in a loving and complete romantic relationship I'm not implying it's not but, for the most part animals are programmed to find their own species (or in rare cases, the species they were raised by/imprinted on) so I'm curious on how this works here :)

Interesting question! :D I decided to look into it. All animals are biologically hard-wired to seek out members of their own species to mate. But. Many animals are somewhat opportunistic. Seals will go after penguins, birds routinely do mating dances for humans, wild coyotes will mate with dogs, lions in captivity will breed with tigers. Even early humans cross-bred with neanderthals. So I’ve decided that in Fuzzbutts, one of the reasons mixed-species couples get side-eyed is because they’re not seen as legitimate or loving, just couples being lazy and opportunistic. A dog dating a dog is fine….a dog dating a wolf is a little weird, but acceptable….a dog dating a WILDEBEEST, though? That dog is a WHORE! >:O A little tramp that couldn’t be bothered to find a fellow canine. In reality, however, it’s not pure opportunism that drives different species to hook up. The people of FB are, well…..people. Just like humans, they evolved to be highly social and instinctively form close bonds. This social instinct tends to trump the drive to date within their own species. A bit like how humans instinctively fear wolves, yet if we encounter a tame one, we’ll likely eventually want to pet and feed it. This social compulsion would be how Tibbs formed a connection to Perry. Present day Tibbs would be a bit embarrassed to admit that he wasn’t initially attracted to Perry when they first met. Not that he found him ugly, it’s simply that Perry was a co-worker, and furthermore, a different species. A predator, a CAT. Very far removed from the big bristly sow-ladies Tibbs was used to. Tibbs was entirely indifferent to him, it honestly didn’t occur to him that dating a lynx was even an option. But over time, as they form and deepen their friendship, Tibbs is startled when he finds himself thinking that Perry is kinda beautiful, in ways he’d never noticed before. He finds himself fascinated with how different they are. Romance and love only amplify the attraction, the Tibbs of today would say that Perry is the most handsome creature alive, and he means it. Perry’s a different case, he found Tibbs attractive from day one. Perry is naturally attracted to his fellow felines, if you'd asked him when he was a teen what his future spouse would look like, he'd have answered a lynx, or perhaps a bobcat. But Perry is not exclusively attracted to felines, and it's this that gets him labelled a deviant. Of course, most animals also experience attraction outside their own species, but few (especially proud, snooty cats) would admit it aloud. Tibbs goes against everything Perry is programmed to like- he's big and burly where a lynx should be small and sleek, his coat is bristly instead of soft, he is not fierce and savage. But Perry likes him anyway, not in spite of these differences, but because of them. Basically, the people of FB may be animals, but they’ve got a lot of humanity to them, and humans are renowned for loving and appreciating anything and everything outside of ourselves.
