still a little bit too detailed, but I think I'm already learning a lot. Pretty happy with the end result! Kinda time-consuming but still fun! I can already tell word bubbles are gonna be a pain. Gotta get my grubby mitts on a free art program better suited to making panels and word bubbles cuz FireAlpaca is serviceable but not especially efficient

Still trying not to hype y'all up too much, but I'm making good progress! The story of It's A Date! has been (roughly) outlined and I'm making my way through writing the first ten pages. With luck I should be at the actual "drawing the comic" phase soon enough, and I'd like to build up a buffer of pages so I can hopefully release a page a week (y'all patrons will see each page a week earlier than my deviantart peeps). :)

This is rad !! Glad to see you feeling good about it. Just remember, it’s always better (IMO!) to go more simple than more complicated if you get stuck on a panel. Too complicated can drain you mentally and physically real quick, but “too simple” will almost always be serviceable

Ohhh this is looking awesome!

Omg, so excited!!! I am very eager to see what you have in store for us ^^

Would you like to try my account for clip studio ex? (Its the $250 one) I can't draw atm as my laptop had to get sent away for repairs so I'm not using it. I can give you the program if you like. It's designed for things like comics.

You're making great progress, Lop! I'm proud of you for branching out and trying a new style while fine-tuning the results to something that's appealing, but easy to replicate. I think this comic will be awesome :)

I love the style so far! would totally love to see drafts of the pages if you'd ever post em!

That book's actually been on my bookshelf for about a decade. :) I've read it many many many times over the years, but a reread is probably overdue.

As someone who has been working on a webcomic for a long time, I want to say first your panel looks amazing! Second, in regards to a good art program, normally I would suggest Clip Studio Paint since its super great for comics and has a lot of great resource. But, the base version is $50 unless you want to wait for a sale which cuts it to $25 . So because of that, I know two art programs that are free and might be better suit. One is called Medibang Paint, which is a free program that has a pretty robust system and has a lot of good art features. The second program is called Krita. I've never used it a lot but I heard its a great free program that come with build in features for creating comics. I'd recommend checking them out and see which might work for you.

Oooh we gettin FLURRY content too? You're too good, my heart can't take it. Super excited to see the comic (and where it falls in the timeline of Flurry's Life-Changing Field Trip)!

If someone showed me this panel and told me it was a preview of the next official MLP comic I would 1000% believe them. You're doing AMAZING!!! If you find yourself any useful comic creating techniques you'd like to share on Patreon I'm sure a lot of us would love a tutorial!

Ah, unfortunately Flurry will probably not be making an appearance in IAD, unless in a brief flashback or something. Skyla’s life is characterized more by her sister’s absence than her presence. :/ I drew Flurry in a test panel cuz she’s one of my classic over complicated character designs, and I wanted to practice simplifying it while still keeping her recognizable

Wow thanks! I’m still learning myself, but I’d be happy to share insight about making comics as I go along.

ClipStudio is a good program that has a function which allows you to make comic panels and bubbles and everything. It isn’t free you pay a monthly subscription or something like that, but it might be worth looking at. I use it and I find it super helpful.

I think its a good idea that you're simplifying the shading! A good idea would be to reserve complex shading for more uhhh 'powerful' moments.

lopoddity

Aw that's so generous, thanks for offering! :) But I think I'm good. I just found out FireAlpaca has a whole range of comic tools, and now making panels and word bubbles is a good deal easier. Thanks again though!

Try Clip Studio Paint! It not only has a bunch of fan-made brushes. (You can also install photoshop brushes) It also is used to make manga so it has stuff like bubbles you can download!
