So looking past my initial terror at GigaChad Spike, I can admit his design isn't....completely bad. I like his size. It's just his giant chin and unsettling humanoid proportions that bother me. Why is he built like a buff human person? No other dragon in the show has a similar body type. It all furthers into my sneaking suspicion that Spike's design was just a last minute power fantasy for the male bronies that used him as a self-insert to be shipped with all the adult female characters but that's a rant for another day

ANYWAY. Yeah. Let's chuck those human-y proportions in the trashcan. I imagine that young dragons are bipedal, but as they grow, they transition into a fully quadrupedal gait. Spike isn't yet so heavy that he can't walk on his hind legs, but it's definitely become kinda awkward and cumbersome, and he needs to use his long tail as a counterweight to balance the weight of his head and forearms. It looks like a mash-up between a grizzly bear and a tyrannosaur.

Also my Spike is chubby, because......c'mon. He's a geek that likes to read comic books, play tabletop RPGs, and eat loads of junkfood. He's canonically greedy. He's gonna be a chungy boi. That doesn't mean there isn't a layer of iron-clad muscle in there. Spike could swat a would-be villain like a fly.......but he hopes his offers to make them friendship bracelets will be more effective.

I love this. Spike goes through his awkward young adult phase of being fucking big like a FO Deathclaw, towering over ponies with arms the size of tree trunks, but he’s really a sweetie who’s good at his job as friendship ambassador, and he loves his husband and son, and enjoys baking and O&O on the side.
