spoilers for season 9 finale! Read at your own risk

k so i'm still waffling on whether or not to add this character to my cast or not

have some loose ideas

Mascarpone Pie (called 'Marcy' for short, or 'Lil Cheese' as a foal) is the eldest of Pinkie and Cheese's merry brood. Marcy is......a lot. As something like an extreme optimistic nihilist, Marcy believes that nothing truly matters, so why not have a good time? She's a bucket of thrills, but also wildly irresponsible, and rather pushy about getting others to join in all her fun and games, much like her mother used to be.

As an adult, Marcy works as a circus performer, and her acts include fire swallowing, tightrope walking, lion taming, and sword juggling. When she was younger, she and Cupcake were quite close, and Marcy promised they'd be a part-planning duo on level with Cheese and Pinkie. But when Big Sis left home to find herself, she got so caught up in her own misadventures that she seemed to forget to write, or respond to any of Cupcake's letters. Feeling abandoned, Cupcake eventually stopped trying. She redirected her attention onto her new baby siblings PB and Jam, and later tries to shield them from Marchy's hijinks.

Whenever Marcy and Cupcake interact, Marcy is over-the-top friendly and familiar, and is always surprised at any new changes in Cupcake's life, having expected her sister to have frozen in time while she's away. She often comments on how big Cupcake has grown and treats her like a filly. Cupcake is cold to her in turn, and Marcy either doesn't notice, or doesn't care.

feedback is appreciated, i'm not super committed to this concept

Love her design! And I am very interested in learning more about her destructive personality 😀. And by destructive I mean with a carefree, nothing really matters, imagine all the things that could be done.

Anonymous

I like her design a lot and I think she’d be interesting to see in the Pandoraverse.

I like her design and love the story x I think as a random come back from the sibling that ran away to join the circus. And she upsets cupcake and is annoying her when she returns and then an angry pandora pops up. Would love to see that

Angsty Ram

Since you said that Marcy was in the circus, it made me think about PB’s time. Would they be in the same one or rival ones? I can see PB getting the idea of joining the circus thanks to one of Marcy’s visits. If this also becomes canon, I can see Cupcake not liking circuses at all. Not like anger but more sadness really. They just bum her out thanks to her big sister leaving for one.

Id like to think she was born before pinkie and cheese married and inturn bared the brunt of allot of Pinkies and Cheese yoing adult mistakes in parenting. As much as pinkien and cheese loved her they werent the best at creating a balanced and scheduled enviroment and Marcy often lived in a faaar to choatic household. Thats why when Cupcake came along they (way later like 4-6 yrs later) the couple had learned allot of their lessons

Anonymous

Basically imagine the episode where pinkie tries to babysit the twins and ends up hugely failing now just imagine that everdyday with her daughter Marcy

Anonymous

Actually the reason cupcake leaving ponyville to become a guard upset Pinkie so much because she felt like she was losing another daughter.

*sorry for the spiel

Wait a second, do they pair up the mlp main cast at the end with families and all? I did NOT know this! Or did I completely misread your description? Also, is the nickname "Marcy" another nod to Charlie Brown, added to Cupcakes "sir", or am I reaching? Beautiful concept btw, love this nihilistic princess! She is flawless, but, if you don't mind constructive criticism, I'd say add a little more colour to her mane and body to contrast more with both Pinkie Pie and her downer mentality. You could pass it off as some recessive Pinky gene or a rare side effect of Pinkie's rainbow power (maybe pinkie was pregnant with Marcy while using her powers?). Just a suggestion of course, she's gorgeous either way.

I think this is a wonderful idea! It adds a lot of depth to Cupcake's character, and Marcy herself is super interesting. Her behavior reminds me of Chakra a little bit in how irresponsible and outwardly careless they are. She seems like such a self-absorbed dick, and I love that as someone to compare to Cupcake.

Chioro

I like the direction, but it feels a little flat in personality. It reminds me of the Rarity issue with Sweetie Bell.

Lil' Cheese already got spoiled for me, but I know pretty much nothing else, so I'm fine with checking out your headcanon. I'm sorry this isn't as glowing as everyone else's responses When I saw you were making a nihilist character, I was excited, because that's something I ascribe to myself , and it's very rare we ever see that trait in protagonists. (That's why I'm very reluctant about ever use that word; because of all the negative connotation). But Marcy is a friendly "optimistic nihilist," not exactly a moralistic one. Suddenly I was less interested. Maybe I'm just being petty over a character not being as much like me as I first thought, but I feel overly familiar with this kind of person. Not just from other franchises, but from the Pandoraverse in particular. We already have self-absorbed characters acting hedonistic, in their own ways, to escape their insecurities. Pandora gave up on being a princess, and just runs around trying to play the part of a witch and causing mischief. Chakra runs away from home and gets hooked on drugs and starts mooching off of people (although in the current timeline we're past that). Then there's Treehugger, while not a nihilist, has an... "alternative" view of the world, and her existence in it. Being unmoored from conventional standards and responsibility has her being super neglectful of her own son's development. That's just what I'm thinking of off the top of my head. Marcy's dynamic with running off and neglecting her family's feelings isn't exciting because you've already written this kind of conflict before. And to be clear, have done it SO well! I'm also disappointed with what's being implied with Cupcake. This makes it seem like Cupcake acts dour because of how her sister hurt her early on while she was developing. Cupcake is interesting because she's just a reserved pony by her own nature, compounded by difficulty in expressing herself to most ponies. Saying that she has this attitude due to of abandonment (IF that's what you're going for) feels like it takes away something interesting; the lesson that some people just act differently from the norm, and it's not that they're jerks, or have been hurt in some way. This might sound weird, but for this character, are you taking any inspiration from the Steven Universe movie? Because this sounds kind of like Spinel's personality, and when she tried to reset herself and Pink Diamond: -"She's a bucket of thrills, but also wildly irresponsible, and rather pushy about getting others to join in all her fun and games." -"Marcy is over-the-top friendly and familiar, and is always surprised at any new changes in Cupcake's life, having expected her sister to have frozen in time while she's away." (Although with the latter, SHE'S the one who physically left, not got left behind). This isn't a complaint or accusation, I'm just curious. Maybe I still have Spinel on MY mind, and now I'm seeing her when there's nothing.

I also see her being the tallest out of them all, like hella tall

Hmmm...I’m kind of on both sides? Like on one hand I really like the thought of Pinkie and Cheese having more children, it just makes sense for them especially since Pinkie comes from a big family (and it’s adorable to think about Peebs having three big sisters, driving home even more why he’s his mama’s “bitty baby boy”). Plus I do like that Pinkie has a canon show daughter. Of all the things I expected of the ending this one took me by surprise in a pleasant way. Buuuut truthfully on the other hand I’m not sure about Cupcake having abandonment issues and resentment with her older sister. It feels a little too much like Skyla and Flurry? (Though to be fair Flurry didn’t do it maliciously or really even selfishly). I don’t know....me personally I like the idea of their issues being a little more subtle? Like she is obviously a bit older then Cupcake and I personally like to think she was an “oopsie” early in her parents’ relationship rather then when Pinkie is a more settled older adult. Still they welcome their baby with joy and love and try to be the best parents. But like someone mentioned above they made mistakes with their first born like many new, young parents. Maybe Marcy grew up spoiled, maybe she grew up a bit on the wild side, but either way by the time Cupcake came around she was well and truly set in her ways by then (maybe a big age difference like she was just entering her teens when Cupcake was born). She loved her baby sister but grew bored of it all perhaps. She was raised as an only child and while her parents had started to settle down (for them anyways) Marcy still had her fire burning hot and as cute as her lil sis could be she also wasn’t all that terribly fun sometimes. Or was a little too timid in their games. Or just wanted to sit quietly under a tree when Marcy wanted to jump through a burning ring of fire blindfolded while juggling working chainsaws. She TRIED to relate to Cupcake and get on this whole calmer family thing but in the end it just wasn’t for Marcy. Ponyville has become too quite, too constrained, too predictable. So one day directly after breakfast she cheerfully proclaims to her family that she’s catching a train to however far it will go in...oh jeepers 5 minutes she better get going! She ruffles a very confused little Cupcake’s mane, gives her sputtering daddo a hug, and gives her tearing up, confused and hurt mother a big smooch on the cheek and with one big grin she’s suddenly just gone. I think Cupcake does have some abandonment issues that way (as well adds to her thinking she’s so dull and boring she sent her big sister away) but I think over the years maybe makes peace with the fact that Marcy is just Marcy. She’s not a bad pony exactly....just selfish and wild and honestly doesn’t seem to understand how much she hurt her family, and gets very uncomfortable and squirmy anytime Cupcake tries to bring it up with her, often quickly changing the subject. She just....isn’t a part of their lives anymore. I think the twins have even less of a relationship with their oldest sister.....anyways that’s my take on it for now but I’ll think more about it!

cactus bastrop

i think the line out of this that holds the MOST possibilities is cupcake wanting to protect jam & pb from marcy’s antics. we don’t see cupcake interact with her existing siblings all that often, and, if marcy was made canon, it doesn’t seem like we’d see a lot of HER either, so i think it’d be neat to use her to dig into cupcake’s relationship with the twins. maybe marcy comes to visit, jam is immediately enamored (bc, of course), cupcake tries to warn her and jam gets upset, regrettable things are said on both sides (“maybe you were just too boring for marcy!”) etc. then marcy does something that inadvertently hurts jam, who apologizes to cupcake. cuppy, bc she loves her lil siblings more than anything in the world, is in no way mad or “i told you so,” tells jam not to be sorry, and it’s sisterly bonding time. that’s just a random scenario that popped into my mind, but i think if you keep marcy as canon, since it doesn’t seem like she’ll be contributing to a lot of the narrative, it could be a great way to explore cupcake, pb, and jam’s relationship w each other!

lopoddity

Very interesting! I was a bit discouraged with Marcy and was going to toss her aside, but you've given me more to consider. :>

Thought about Marcy last night. What if her nihilistic view WAS the result of Pinkie going into rainbow power during her pregnancy. I headcanon that rainbow powers zap Pinkie of all her joy (laughter) for a brief moment. What if Marcy's downer pov is a result of her own inherited "laughter magic" being taken in utero?

Ooh I love this wild child, Heather made some awesome points too, whatever you end up doing I’m always excited to see LOL. As a side note: this gal made me think of (parts of) the song Dancing Through Life from Wickedly

Dragon Turtle

Whadda you know, apparently Pinkie had a brief but similar phase. https://www.deviantart.com/evehly/art/Life-is-Pain-D-799339555 (I couldn’t help but think of your character when I found this today)

Dragon Turtle

Lopoddity, have you still been thinking of putting Mascarpon into the Pandoraverse? Because I was thinking about the future look of the Mane 6, and how much older they looked, and I see now that you have a really good opportunity. The Doylist in me says that the characters got their gray hairs and eye-bags because without them, the base pony model isn’t good at conveying age. Mayor Mare married Applejack’s parents, so has to be at least twice her age. Yet their silhouettes are almost identical. It’s also logical to say that they all look tired out because everyone in Ponyville has seen some serious shit. But I think we’re supposed to read “The Last Problem“ as being something like ~30 years into the future. When it comes to their kids Lil’ Cheese and the SugarMac colt, these don’t have to be their eldest kids (Not that there’s anything wrong or impossible with waiting later in life to have a kid). I really do think this is supposed to be a gift from the show staff to creators like you, so that there’s still a large period of time to fit in whatever next-gens we want. They can either be off screen or have already left Ponyville. Normally I wouldn’t say that a show would be so accommodating to fans, but with this finale it seemed like they were treading carefully with headcanons about everyone’s futures. It actually would be a nice variety to your family units. Most of the next-gens are at least teenaged, but now one couple either decided to have a later baby, or it was an oopsie they decided to embrace. Like the PanCake triplets in your “Big Brother Oddball” piece. (Of course you’re really creative, so this probably already occurred to you. It just hit me last week, before I went to Ciderfest.)
