someone asked if Nightmare Moon only turned pegasi into bat ponies. The answer is nope, Luna also bestowed bat wings to earth ponies, and as for her unicorn loyalists.....well, they were bestowed with powerful magic, and altered bodies, to better reflect their status as creatures of the endless night. They were the wingless bat ponies, the lunacorns. (also known as moonicorns, horned bats, or wingless chiropterasi). Unfortunately, when Nightmare Moon was banished, hostile attitudes toward her traitorous disciples forced the bat ponies to go into hiding. The lunacorns, being without flight, could neither hope to hide among the colonies of their winged brethren, nor conceal themselves among ponykind. They were thought to have been driven to extinction....thought it seems, one thousand years later, that Nightmare Moon's shadow still lingers in Equestria's unicorns.
