most pegasi have an affiliation for a particular element of weather- wind, rain, ice, fire, etc.....Zipperflash has a lightning affiliation. It runs in his family! It just means he's particularly good at controlling electricity, not that he's entirely immune to it. Most pegasi wouldn't use their wings to hold an electric charge, because y'know, lightning + pony = death, in most cases. But Zips was raised by a reckless daredevil Ma, he's a lot bolder (stupider) than the average pegasi. It just looks cool, sue him! He's gotten so skilled with lightning he often sparks it unconsciously- it generates whenever he flies fast, and "charges" his wings before a takeoff.....and sometimes when he just really wants to smooch a cute unicorn.
