Wanna see a magic trick? Observe as Toffee and Maple blow up their friendship in just one conversation! ✨

(To anyone worried- Toffee is going to let go immediately, somewhat horrified at himself. All he leaves Maple with is a slight bruise on her arm….and a shattered sense of trust.)

I really really appreciate how willing you are to have your characters have real flaws and make real, genuine mistakes! It makes their development so much more engaging.

Maple had it coming for that one tbh

Hmm, I disagree. Maple holds no true power over Toffee. She's not the church, she's not his father. She's just a person, albeit one deliberately using a hurtful slur. But Toffee has considerable power over Maple. Physically. He's bigger and stronger than she is. He is a man. Maple has been raised to fear potential violence from men. She has seen other women be harmed by men. By grabbing her and hurting her, he exerts his power over her. Maple can't break free, and she has no reason to believe Toffee will not hurt her further. It's terrifying to be overpowered and threatened, even for a moment. Maple sought to hurt Toffee, but Toffee aimed to hurt Maple AND cause her fear and physical pain, which- to me anyway- feels like a completely unjustified over-response.
