I'm returning to a piece that I'd previously started. While the majority of the work is done, it never has been quite "finished". 

My large self portraits, such as this one, often include an elaborate background. It is often the background, or the landscape portion of these works that requires a lot of work. Such is the case here. While the figure is complete, I want to make sure that it exists in a plain that looks convincing. 

For this piece, the convincing part includes a lot of attention to detail. All those petals not only need to be individually painted, but also cast an appropriate shadow. Plus, there's an added element of foreshortening to create depth of field. 

It's a beast of a painting, but will be worth another round (or two) of layers of sheer paint!
