Sneak Peek: A Collection of Improvising Exercises (Patreon)
Content
It would be easy to refer to this book simply as what the front cover says it is, but it's so much more!
This book is the most recent from artist and game maker Tim Hutchings. He's made such games as Thousand Year Old Vampire, and Apollo 47. Which are anything but typical, traditional games. His games broaden the horizons of imagination!
I was pretty excited to try this one. The prompts for this game/book set forth the premise that I'm living in a beach hut. The very first exercise being to draw what your hut looks like. Further prompts (which I haven't gotten to) will be about what has washed up on your beach, for example.
As I completed the first improving exercise, I was challenged. I don't typically draw on this scale, nor do I use a lot of perspective drawing. It required me to step out of my comfort zone, think creatively (as I have no idea what beach living looks like, or beach huts, or palm trees). It really does take on the feeling of playing a game in this way.
I'm currently editing a YouTube video which will cover more of the game and show the drawing in progress. It should be up on Monday.
I just wanted you to have the first look!
