An Exploration in Sand (Patreon)

I found some sand that is full of mica! Mica is a flakey, shiny mineral. I like to think of it as nature's glitter! Like glitter, the sand is very sticky. It sticks to the skin and creates a beautiful sheen. My experiment for these photos didn't come out as planned, but I managed to get some great photos all the same. I'd envisioned that the sand and mica would make a greater impact photographically than they actually did.

It was a fairly overcast day, and I thought the light would lend to the process. But it started raining, the sand never had the opportunity to dry and adhere to the skin. I haven't given up on this idea, though! I know where there's more sand, and I'll try again another time with an opportunity for the sand to dry.
