In Native American lore, the Thunderbird is a mythical creature whose wings are so great they thunder. In many beliefs, the creature causes the storms, which can either be a blessing or a curse. The motif of the Thunderbird is created with inlay in bright stones in my father's belt. I wear the belt some days, like today, to feel a little closer to home and to my heritage. I like to think of New Mexico as a wonderful melting pot of cultures and traditions, and my roots run so deep there. The belt is so very true to that thought. My dad, with his western wear: the cowboy style leather work on the belt and its native motif. His nickname carefully placed center back. The fact that he had that nickname at all: Toy. Silly, playful. Simplified for those who couldn't say his full name.

I thought I would share this little memento with you. I know we all have cherished things from people we love. I like to think that by sharing them, we further the memory. Thank you for letting me share with you!

Nice belt and a great story!! Amazing how much meaning is in one seemingly simple thing. A true treasure.
