While I can understand this and that, restrictions, etc. it will never not feel so hollow to me. Character regression is a joke for a show that's been on this long with such a limited cast that relies on a brother relationship so I didn't care that they made jokes or emotionally empty montages. Dean being the sloppy guy who can't cook, loves pie, has an affinity for hybrid monster names, loves weird weapons, aggravating his little bro while also putting him above his own grief by saying moving forward is what they sacrificed for. This is essentially making Castiel a plot device that gave way to beating a villain via Jack who was already a plot device after 14. Then butcher the mainstay song playing it twice with a cover that makes me want to vomit and glossing over losing the only person outside of his brother that he loved truly (romantic/brotherly/whatever). Cas and Dean built a relationship when they both had such doubts shaken in their family, beliefs, helped each other emotionally and challenged each other. So they wasted all this time showing us goofy sides and then barely a reference to this person who sacrificed not only his angel status, heavenly family, his life too many times to count, as well as his son Jack when the world is evaporating all for just for a chance that Dean could see what he saw, believe in that and get every extra chance to live...to unimaginable darkness pissed me off. Yeah, season one...woohoo...dying bloody plan just so Sam can revert back to his college days or no...blurry wife, son he named Dean and just waiting to die to see his brother again is painfully throwing the past 15 years of this show in our faces. Party city wig, the world's weirdest impossible Winchester family photo and Dean's watch pointedly shown numerous times as he dies or whatever because Sam's current family isn't important enough HURTS everyone.

One of the saddest parts of this episode is thinking about how Dean's dog has no idea what happened to him. He's just gone one day and the dog has no idea why. It's devastating!
