I think this is one of the most misinterpreted episodes of this show which is a shame because the episode is great. It’s fun and it has some interesting commentary and subtext going on (in the tap dancing scene for example). I think they wanted to do a fun meta episode for the last season and the idea for this episode was going to be that Sam and Dean are dealing with “normal” people’s problems they haven’t had to worry about because they are the main characters of the story. And why are they dealing with these problems? Well because of Chuck, the writer of the story, who is messing with them. It’s fine if some people don’t like how the episode was executed or just don’t like the episode as a whole. But at least to me it’s pretty obvious that the intention of the episode is not that Sam and Dean have some sort of special powers that Chuck took away. This is one of those times when you shouldn’t take everything that the characters say as the ultimate truth but instead believe the story that’s being told. In this case Garth wasn’t technically wrong by saying that Sam and Dean are just dealing with normal people’s problems but they aren’t completely normal either because who has that many cavities all of a sudden, who has that much trouble with their car, etc. They are not their normal selves, they are cursed by Chuck to experience normality in an extreme way.

Yes, it is the execution of the concept that I don’t enjoy. I get offended on Sam and Dean’s behalf. They are fictional characters so I know I shouldn’t, but here we are.

DJ said at a Liverpool con last year that he is basically living long enough to see Jensen fail at SOMETHING! He brought up this tap dance - cracked me up because I adore Dean/Jensen but I really didn't see all these layers of talent until the last couple of years.
