Oh my god how I’ve missed your reactions! This is a truly fantastic episode, like you said, one of the best ever of Merlin, but your reaction was even better. One of your best reactions *ever* ! You are literally me every time I watch this episode. So yeah this is such a messy, crazy episode, but brilliant I think, in terms of how complicated it is, how many times it twists and turns, and also just how many times it gets the viewer to side with different characters, and see their perspectives - again as you brilliantly noted, everyone’s right and everyone’s wrong! Like so many times in this episode I get so annoyed and frustrated with Arthur/Merlin, but also I so do understand their perspectives - particularly as Kara was not being put on trial for being a Druid or using magic, but for murdering innocent people (just to be clear, in case you didn’t completely catch it, but it wasn’t for Arthur’s attempted murder that she was on trial, but for taking part in the Saxon attack, of which they find the bodies of at the beginning of the episode!) But you can also totally understand Mordred, and even Kara’s perspective and reasoning, for doing what they did. Mordred for love, Kara for her radicalised (but not really wrong, at their core) views. Hats off to the writers for giving everyone such unique but understandable perspectives and also well done to both the writers and actors for making Kara and Mordred’s relationship so believable in such a short amount of time! I truly believed in their love, which you really needed to, for this episode to work and be compelling. The most heartbreaking thing about this episode is how many times this all could have been stopped! Even when we really thought all was lost when Arthur stops Kara and Mordred from running away, Arthur then gives her *another* chance, which is so unexpected, it feels like it has to work, but no, Kara is too radicalised, and does not take the chance..it’s so frustrating and heartbreaking but so well done! You could even argue it goes further back than that. Part of the problem is that Merlin’s been so distrustful and distanced from Mordred since he’s come back, so that now Mordred has some resentment and distrust towards him too. What if Merlin had treated Mordred as a friend and ally from the beginning, and they’d both trusted each other, what could have changed from that?! You’re so right, Merlin should never have found out about the prophecy. As you said, it’s such a hard episode to watch, because it all feels so preventable, but at the same time completely unstoppable! Amazing reaction and an amazing episode. I can’t wait for the finale!

I love and hate this episode at the same time, I agree with everything you said and love these reactions. Particularly on a rewatch it is so tragic to see how desperate Mordred was to be Merlins' friend, and how cold Merlin is now compared to season 1. Ultimately Merlins paranoia is ruining him, the fact that this was all avoidable is heartbreaking
