I love how this literally caught everyone off guard back then! And also love the double meaning of "the world didn´t end" that Mulder dropped. It´s a very chast and tender kiss, but we´re talking about Mulder and Scully, X Files and 7 years of looong waiting for anything, so yeah, it´s a big deal! Let´s enjoy and celebrate! lol

As others have said, this is a "crossover" episode for Chris Carter's other series "Millennium", which lasted three seasons. I'm a big fan of it myself, but it's a completely (!) different type of show. The main character, Frank Black, is part of the Millennium group, and he has the unique ability to see what a killer sees, helping the FBI solve cases. The series slowly progresses from a "serial killer of the week" format to something much more deep. It is not nearly as popular as The X-Files, but it does have many hardcore fans, and it's being talked about to this day on Twitter and elsewhere. I own it on DVD, and fans have been calling on Disney for the last year or so to release it onto streaming platforms. Although a very different show, there are several episodes that have an X-Files vibe to it. Similarly, several X-Files episodes also have a Millennium vibe to it, first and foremost "Irresistible" (which inspired Carter to create Millennium), and other episodes like "Oubliette" and "Grotesque", just to name a few. I'm not going to talk about season seven and beyond, because of spoilers. What's interesting is, even though this is a crossover, this episode itself doesn't really have that Millennium vibe to it, according to many fans of both shows, including myself.
