Great reaction! This episode doesn’t reallyyy do it for me unfortunately. We’ve had the whole ‘traitor in our midst’ so so many times in Merlin, especially with the whole only Merlin knows the truth and everyone else is amazingly oblivious. We’ve even had this episode’s almost exact same plot line in an episode in series 3, where Morgana is the cause of Uther’s deteriorating mental state, and then by the end of the episode is framed as the one who saved him and the kingdom - with even that exact same kind of shot, with Morgana/Gwen smiling at everyone, and Merlin looking at them knowingly! Feels a little bit overdone by this point. There are also, as you noticed, just some annoying plot holes. Why do they seem so content in not knowing who poisoned Arthur in the end? They find out who got the poison, but not who did it! And when Merlin was accused and jailed, where was Gwaine? I think there would be quite a few people like him, who would have come to his defence, and become suspicious of Gwen for accusing him. It doesn’t make sense! What did Arthur think of Gwen imprisoning Merlin? However this isn’t really a ‘bad’ episode and so there are things to enjoy in it. It was nice to see the actor who played Sam Tarly in Game of thrones, playing basically the same character here! The story around him would have been more effective and impactful, if they used an established, recurring character/actor on the show, but they don’t seem to have many of those sadly, and the actor did do a good job of making you like him in a very short amount of time! And I do totally agree with you that Angel Coulby does a really great job playing ‘evil’ Gwen - she’s so fun to watch! It’s not an overblown or exaggerated villainous performance at all, which many actors seem to fall into doing with this kind of plotline, she judges it really well. The next few episodes are good as I remember, and then we’re really onto the last few of the show, wow!

I love Merlin but for me it is an example of a show that stretched the story out to get another season. Morgana is one of the those characters that I am just grew tired of seeing and I really do not like the storyline of a corrupted Gwen. I personally feel they should have ended the Morgana storyline a few seasons ago and brought in a new big bad.
