This was one of my favorite episodes of this season, I mean this season is my favorite out of all of them, but this one aired on my birthday and they just knocked it out of the park for this season, granted even though Luci is one of my favorite angels (Gabe being the other one) I totally hated Nick's storyline

Great reaction, Shelley ... I have mixed feelings about this episode, mainly because of how it was hyped back in the day ... and I'll go into that later in the reply ... My takeaway from this episode is, I guess the connection between the case of the week with Dean is if we place Tony i.e. the falsely chosen prophet-to-be in Dean's place, and how he got his false prophesied calling from Donatello, whom we can place in Billie in relation to Dean ... meaning: Tony thought he was following The Word, which came from Donatello when he was actually, in fact, was "misinformed"... Dean, similarly, thought that he was following Billie's instruction - via the death's fate book, on how the Ma'lax box is the solution to contain Michael. But did we really see Billlie telling him that that is the way? because ... (... that scene in episode 14.10's ending) ... Billie: Well, It’s the funniest thing. But they’ve all been rewritten. They all end the same way now– With the archangel Michael escaping your mind and using you as his vessel to burn down this world. Dean: All of them? Billie: All of them. Except one. [she hands the book to Dean, and Dean opens it] Dean: What am I supposed to do with this? Billie: That’s up to you. ... and then she's gone .... ... Billie didn’t put that book in his hands and say, “this is what you must do to save the world” ... she didn't actually say that is the way to go ... she told him THAT’S UP TO YOU. Not “follow these directions.” And instead of giving Dean hope, it snuffed out that one spark of hope he’d been holding on to up to that point ... and next we saw Dean he himself research how to build that Ma'lax box from the MOL books in the bunker ... ... earlier in the scene Billie started by reminding Dean of the danger of universe hopping ... but we already saw that Michael had already been entertaining the idea and planning to hop to our universe via AU Kevin, long before Lucifer and Mary landed in their world ... (from 13.07 War of the Worlds) MICHAEL: For now. I consider myself a man with a plan. Alternate universes? Not news. We've been exploring the idea. ... but Billie turned around and made it as if it was Dean's fault that Michael ended up in our universe ... and boy howdy, Dean felt that heaviness like a ton of bricks and can’t disagree with her that it was his own meddling that landed him in this position in the first place ... when in actual fact it is not ... therefore false blame of fault that falls upon him from Billie ... ... Dean had been open to researching another solution, to investigate, to waiting and seeing and working with his loved ones to find a better way ... but the MOMENT Billie put that book in Dean’s hands, she shattered his faith in himself, and in his family and ultimately his competency in handling the situation ... again, false immediacy of him assessing the situation of which previously he had not felt there was an imminent threat from Michael escaping ... ... so Billie is the one giving out a "false prophesized outcome" (for lack of a better word … just like Donatello in relation to Tony) and Dean started making all kinds of choices of actions from a place of fear inspired by the resigned acceptance of Billie’s fate book ...

Disclaimer: The following is a DeanCas adjacent post ... yada ... yada ... So back in the day, before this episode aired on Jan 31, 2019, there was a red carpet event for the next episode, which was the 300th one, on Nov 16, 2018. A follow-up of that event was covered by an article in The Mary Sue written by Jessica Mason, via link (Spoilers alert in the article) https://www.themarysue.com/supernatural-episode-300-talk/ ... in which she asked Eugenie Ross-Leming, and later wrote the following, - extract of the article - And speaking of ships, an internet favorite is the profound bond between Dean and Castiel, which we haven’t seen a lot of this season. Well, we have some good news for you on that end of things, according to Ross-Lemming: “There is one big scene coming up in twelve, that we wrote, that’s a big scene between Cas and Dean, and it’s an important turning point scene.” [... also plus ...] Misha Collins also teased about Dean and Cas, “We have some stuff that’s coming up that will scratch that itch,” - /end extract - ... so, of course, DeanCas fans went into the episode with high expectations and ended up with ... just a smidgen of a DeanCas phone scene and a hallway talk between them ... Having written all that, when the script of the episode was available to fans recently, apparently in the hallway scene between Dean and Cas, there were these edited-out lines, CASTIEL: If you're comparing this to your suicidal pIan, don't. DEAN: Can we talk about this later? CASTIEL: According to your plan, there won't be a later. According to your plan, the world loses you, and me -- I-- I lose you too, and that is unacceptable to me, Dean. Unacceptable. Totally. Dean's getting emotional. This is exactly what he was hoping to avoid. DEAN: Cass? If you're my friend, you'll understand that I have to do this. (via page 35/48) Prophet and Loss Script Production Draft (Blue Draft) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1isDUyHV4-cpeCBQQXsNHpy-zdHI8Wa04/view ... in which Cas admitted to Dean how important Dean was to him ... plus that follow-up the stage direction for Dean in response to that admission ... The aired version became, CAS: Because, according to your plan, there won’t be a later. DEAN: Cas… if you are a friend of mine, then you will understand that I have to do this and you won’t try to stop me. You think this is easy on me? It has to be done. CAS: So, then, this is goodbye? So eventually, the takeaway was that: ... was Jessica editorializing (... but she would have recorded the interview, wouldn't she)? ... maybe Eugenie was not aware that the line was taken out? ... was Misha referring to the hallway scene (which in my opinion, was quite vanilla)? ... probably ... ... also from the Production Draft (Blue Draft) script, apparently Cas had been periodically checking in on Donatello since he "mind melt" the latter's brain in S13.14 Good Intention and that was why Doctor Rashad was very familiar with Doctor Novak ... and that tidbit was not in the aired version ...
