Poor Isobel! Yeah, the first Lady Merton was clearly a snobby bitch and her sons take after her. Larry slipped a pill into Tom's drink the last time they met. Tom appeared drunk and was yelling at everyone during dinner about Ireland. When Anthony Strallan called him on what he'd done, Larry said he didn't know why everyone was getting mad about it, "he's just a grubby little chauffeur." That was the first moment where we really met Lord Merton because he immediately stood up, furious, and basically told his son to shut the fuck up (but it was more like the British upper class version of, "You will be silent, sir!) and then apologized "unreservedly" to Tom for Larry's behavior. Then Matthew announced that Tom was going to be his best man. Violet isn't thrilled about the marriage and it's entirely because her best friend is moving away. It's not a huge distance but definitely too far for them to be having lunch together several times a week the way they have been. My best friend lives about a mile from me and if she moved too far away for a spontaneous hangout I'd be miserable. Bates is a good man but he can be really... hard is the best word I can think of. I remember that scene when he was manipulating Molesley into signing that card so he could pretend Molesley had lent him money. Molesley expressed surprise that Bates was being friendly and Bates said, "Aren't I usually friendly?" and Molesley said no. Something along the lines of,, "You're not uncivil, but I wouldn't say you're friendly. Except to Anna." So yes, he's icing out Baxter because she's caused trouble for him and Anna. And he's probably been a little suspicious of her from the start because she has a history with Thomas and he got her the job. It didn't worry me much about Anna seeing Mr. Drew and Marigold. It was the same when she found the baby photo under Edith's pillow after the fire. She said nothing, just handed it to Mrs. Hughes. And I think Mrs. Hughes is a safe person to talk to about it. Both of them can keep a secret and both of them are kind people who wouldn't want to stir up any drama. I love that Mr. Blake became such a busybody about helping Mary break up with Tony. The scene where they talked while out for a walk was awesome. Tony said that it wouldn't be honorable (insert eye roll here) to break it off with Mary but he wouldn't explain why, and Blake said, "You really are an old dear if you think I don't know what you mean." Like, yeah, dude, you had sex with her. I get it. That doesn't mean you can't break up with her when she's the one who wants to break up. (Not gonna lie, I had a brief thought at that moment that they'd make a decent slash pairing.) And poor Isis. She's been around since Season 2, though, so she's a senior citizen now.
