Oh boy, that Misha's live stream was such a hoot! ... A few factoids about that time period, - it was during the filming of S1209 First Blood, around13-24 Oct 2016 - the script that was shown was that episode's, and fans quickly tried to decipher what that scene was - later when it aired, it was revealed that the scene was when Dean called Cas after Sam and Dean escaped their jail/capture, and Cas took the call in the bunker after the earlier ones from Dean went to voicemail - it was at the height of the 2016 US presidential election campaign between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Misha was very much involved and very invested in it - so it was not surprising that this video was in that political vein too, lol Initially, we didn't realize that 'Cass' spelling since scripts were available to us only later in the years. However, we fans actually already knew why TPTB spelled Cass instead of Cas, we just tend to ignore it, especially Cas fans (very perceptive of you, Shelley *hat tip* ...), - Eric Kripke did a Q&A on twitter for the release of his comic Jacked on Dec 17, 2015 - he posted on Twitter using the hashtag : #EricKripkeChat and he used @vertigo_comics to answer those questions - that Q&A can be read via link: https://spnuk.wordpress.com/2015/12/17/twitter-chat-with-eric-kripke/ - our Robbie Thompson sent several hilarious questions, including that why the spelling Cass not Cas, as follows, @rthompson1138 asked: who would win in a fight between Sam & Dean v. Gremlins/Beetlejuice. asking for science. Eric Kripke: Get off your ass, write that episode, and tell me! @rthompson1138 asked: will i get fired for trolling the #EricKripkeChat tag? Eric Kripke: No, but your pay is being docked for every question you submit. @rthompson1138 asked: why is Castiel’s nickname spelled Cass not Cas? again: for science Eric Kripke: I think “Cass” just looks cooler on the page. And “Cas” might sound like “Caz.” But that’s just my opinion. Now get back to work. ... and there you have it .... from the creator of the show himself, lol ... - more, Robert Berens: In internal documents our standard is to use "Cass." (But in my head, and in my heart? He's "Cas.") Robert Berens: Have to use "Cass" in scripts--it's the internal standard, now a habit. (But silently I agree-- it's "Cas") David Reed: My job on SPN was to format all the scripts. So regardless of what individual writers wrote, it always became Cass in the end. Because that’s the way Krip wrote it first. I am a tyrant.
