Yep, Mary has figured out that there's no real chemistry with Gillingham. I'm sure the sex had something to do with it but I think it was mostly spending all day, every day with him. There was always a vocal contingent of fans who shipped Mary and Tom, but I never wanted that. I just LOVE that they've become fast friends and pseudo-siblings. They cast Prince Kuragin really well. The most fiery chemistry I've ever seen between two octogenarians. Rewatching this season highlights so many things I didn't really notice the first time, and there are a lot of situations where Cora just feels dismissed and ignored. Robert doesn't share things with her, tells her she doesn't need to know things. So when she meets a man whose eyes light up when he sees her and hangs on every word she says, of course she's going to be flattered and a little giddy with the attention. And Robert is jealous once he notices but naturally, instead of talking to her like an adult, he has to pout and play the injured party. As usual, poor Edith. She just can't stay away from Marigold and from Mrs. Drew's perspective, she's being weird and obsessive.
