I'll start with my one question I had at the time for this episode - why didn't the shapeshifter know that one of her patients was a shapeshifter too? I would think it would come with being a Shifter - the ability to tell if there's another Shifter near them Seems like that would be handy, A survival trait. I think I'll leave it at that. I won't bore people with my thoughts on parallels and such.

Remember when Sam used to get mad at Dean for following dad's orders? Or how weak he was? Or how he hated being bossed around? He pushed brotherly chats to understand and help his brother and vice versa. It was the beauty of this show. Then he suddenly stopped wanting to be his own man, to be a leader or even believing in himself, his brother and choosing freewill. I miss the guy who didn't buckle to "God's plan" or joined BMoL but at least I thought faith worked for his character on the plan and the latter was to build the connection with his mom. I am with you and many others...Mary and Sam need something more here! Sam's positivity and hope have been his strongest points in this show and I want him back! Dean's grief and anger have been amplified to some insane level that makes everyone hate his character but I never will. I still see both of these brothers minus the inconsistent drama they rachet up for a long show even now that they are getting relegated to supporting characters. Call it lore inconsistency but I can still watch some of these later season episodes because most of it cracks me up! Maybe it's the full SPN family and conventions that help bridge the gaps the showrunners and writers blow up - it makes me wish more folks got the whole experience!

I think the thing about Dean's relationship with Jack is - like, we KNOW how Dean is about kids. *Especially* innocent kids, who are all tangled up in supernatural rubbish. There's not a single kid Dean hasn't wanted to adopt on the freaking spot. All except Jack. And I think a loooot of that is because of Cas - especially once 1.) the sassy drunk angel Miriam confirmed Cas was capital D, DEAD-dead b.) Jack confirmed that *Cas* is his dad. I think Dean had to try to keep Jack at arm's length, otherwise he *knew* he would instantaneously grab Jack and put him right in his pocket. I think the fact that Jack and Cas had interactions prior to Jack's birth was what weirded Dean out the most - all of that is a big gray area for him, as a human, so I think that's why he defaulted to 'he brainwashed Kelly and Cas' - because, in his experience, anybody that interacts with a supernatural something, it's usually NOT a good thing. And I mean, yeah - Jack *is* Lucifer's son, but he's half human *and* half *archangel*. So that means human crossed with adorable Castiel-brand angelic cluelessness. (Also - it really is uncanny how much Alex does look like Misha! A+ job casting directors!)

SPOILER ALERT ... I especially liked how Jensen in an M&G (at HonCon I think), described succinctly Dean's conflicted feelings about Jack - he said at first, Dean saw only Lucifer in Jack; later he saw Cas in Jack when Cas is back.
