I enjoy this episode so much. Bobby and Rufus's dynamic is complicated and rewarding. The editing is fantastic. When Bobby and Dean lock eyes in the nest, I go full Pavlovian dog. I knew what was coming, but the spigot turned and the tears poured forth. (I am always willing to be proven wrong, but, as of today, I do not think John would've seen his sons in that nest.) Surrogate father Bobby has my whole heart. This is such a pure "MOTW episode" on the one hand, but on the other hand it's so cleverly constructed with characterization, story, etc., etc. So, so good. p.s. I will simply echo that I do not like Just My Imagination. I simply... It's just not for me. 🤷

Thanks, I thought it was the same bottle. Also, i agree about John. I think John would see Mary, not his sons, in the nest.

So I truly enjoyed this episode. I generally enjoy Robbie Thompson’s and in my opinion, this episode is one of his best works on Supernatural if not one of the best of the show. And we will see Robbie’s THE BEST episode coming soon … (in my opinion). Safe House is clever, thoughtful, and creepy with full-on feelings of nostalgia, one that reminds me of how entertaining Rufus and Bobby were. Rufus and Bobby are a perfect vehicle for comedy, but Robbie doesn’t ignore the possibility to use this parallel storyline to shed light on what the Winchesters are facing. This was done so well not only in a technical sense … (THAT INTER-CUT/EDITING WITH THE FLASHLIGHTS WAS SO INCREDIBLE!), DEAN: Come and get me, you son of a bitch! Later, BOBBY: Stay away from me, you son of a bitch. …. but also in terms of the writing. Robbie Thompson really knows how to treat these characters with respect and love, and that made Safe House a treat. The mystery was well-executed; the Soul Eater is one of the most horribly creepy things on this whole show; and the remnant souls, wasting away in the Soul Eater’s nest, was hopelessly sad. Plus the make-up was incredible! (I’ve been using this word a lot here, lol). I literally gasped the first time I watched when Dean LOCKING EYES WITH BOBBY and immediately teared up after. Oh Bobby Singer, I missed you so much …

This season was Robbie's last on Supernatural, and he expected this episode to be his last one (it was not). He's been writing for 3 and sometimes 4 episodes per season, and he thought he was done for the year, just like he thought The Book of the Damned was his last in S10, but then it turned out Angel Heart was the last one. If Safe House WAS the last one, kudos to him for writing such an impactful one while bringing back not one but two of SPN's iconic characters. He did mention that when he came on the show in S7 earlier, he was too late to voice his opinion (objection presumably) about killing Bobby. Also in Jeremy Carver's era (S8 to S11), Bobby had been appearing in one episode in each season. So with this episode, presumably he has met his quota for the year. We'll see whether this pattern will continue to hold in Andrew Dabb's era (S12 to S15).
