Gah, I usually skip chunks of seasons 8 and 9 because I hate how the boys are written. It's like they wanted us to hate one or both of them and I know a lot of folks stopped watching because their bromance was the biggest draw of the show we came to love. Still wish I knew what it meant to close the gates to hell. What would happen to the demons topside? Would they be stuck here, sucked back down or need to be hunted/cured/exorcized? Can the trials be resumed, restarted or was this a one hit wonder? A lot of people had an issue with them not closing it and calling them selfish. It also really diminishes that beautiful bro-ment back last season when Dean was dead set to face the trials for Sam's future (what he called his happy ending) but his little bro stood strong saying he would take the lead, they would both survive and they would see that light at the end of the tunnel together. And poor freaking Kevin never stops getting screwed over by angels, demons and humans! It makes NO sense that they couldn't do anything to at least try to find his mom. It dirties the found family idea that SPN had built into it's show and fanbase so I must be missing the logic. Dean already looks bad enough for lying to Sam, will he be kicking puppies next episode? Mow down some kids in the Impala?

I forgot to say that i am glad dean acknowledged that not closing the gates of hell was a dumb move & that now every demon kill is on him, so sad, i don't want him to live with that guilt but i am glad they're acknowledging the consequences of choosing someone you love over the world

While I'm still not convinced that closing Hell's gates was 100% a good idea because a) gotta be cosmic consequences down the line, I figure and b) Metatron seemed all for it -- and F *that* guy I am fully willing to acknowledge that Show is signaling in this episode that closing the gates would've been good. I call "harumph"… but okay, Show, I see you. 😜
