Last episode that Ben Edlund wrote for the show, I’ve been waiting for this ep but sad about that 😔

The way I loooveeed that statement that Naomi made about Castiel, that she had to “reset” him to many times, my love for Cas grew even more with this episode, he has been fighting for free will since he existed and I love that concept, Ben Edlund understanding Cas is just… ❤️❤️ Fantastic episode, loved the reaction, 🙌🏻

So impressed, Shelley. You are maybe only the second reactor I remember identifying fake Sam&Dean as demons on the boat. FYI, with the scene at Biggerson’s…gray suit usually equals angels, rather than demons. Helps us make a fast identification, lol Ahh the Grand Canyon story. It’s funny, yet an unintentional retcon because way back at the end of 2x09 they said they had never been to the Grand Canyon. Lol, love that you cannot make yourself hate Crowley. The way Mark Sheppard plays him makes the character so fun and the writers keep him interesting. I really love how Kevin was such a badass at figuring out the fake Sam and Dean and then bdungnsi cool standing up to Crowley. He is no longer that scared, frightened teenager we first met. Love the character so much. Just two episodes to go. So looking forward to the upcoming episodes and seasons. I enjoy most of the Carver era.

I haven't watched this video yet. But I cannot wait to post my comments, lol. This is such a great swan song episode by Ben Edlund, the last one that he wrote for the series. As always, Edlund gave Castiel - who he admitted one of his favorite characters, a series of very badass moves - that whatever mumbo jumbo, quantum physics superimposition move is, that he did to run from the angels, and keeping the tablet in his stomach, and shoving the angel's blade bullet into Ion's eye. Not many writers managed to give Castiel, the angel of the lord, such badass moves anymore, and for that, I am so thankful to this great writer of SPN. Also, Kevin - a character Edlund created and introduced in Reading is Fundamental in S7 - he gave Kevin such clever tactics and bravery in order to survive Crowley. Kevin's character has grown by leaps and bounds from a whiny teenager to spouting "watcha gonna do - kill me?!" to the Big Bad's face and doesn't even care whether he will survive the encounter or not. Also, Edlund created and gave Crowley the strategic move in making bullets out of an angel's blade in order to defeat the angels. Unfortunately, this convo is between Naomi and Crowley, the rest are angels so they won't want this intel to come out. So Sam and Dean would be clueless about this, and we will see when or if they will find out about it. Ben Edlund's brain, man .... I salute you sir ... and I thank you for your time in Supernatural.

Lastly, about the Grand Canyon line that was said by Sam to Dean in his ramblings. Edlund was given such flak by fans about the continuity error back in the day and later he had to apologize for it. Which I don't think should warrant such a big deal. And then, there is a fanfiction writer by the name of NorthernSparrow, she is such a big named fanfiction author in SPN universe. Sparrow is a college professor and a prolific traveler. Her headcanon is this: Grand Canyon has mostly not suitable trails for children. From Sam's ramblings, Dean said that the trip was when he was 8 so Sam was 4. John couldn't have taken them on that trail - one adult with 2 toddlers on a donkey ride would not be an easy trip. He might have taken them on an easier trail nearby or somewhere else and lied to the boys (or Sam since he was such a nerd even when he was a small kid, but Dean knew) that they were on a trail at Grand Canyon, and that trip was the one in Sam's memory. That was why Dean said they haven’t been to Grand Canyon in Croatoan S2. That is such a good headcanon and I'll take it.

I feel like this is definitely a rewatch episode for Shelley.

It's always been the stand out scene in this episode.

The way your face lit up on reading misha's name in the credits 🥰🤣, so relatable, that was my experience watching it live, any episode that had his name got me excited for it, coz i knew there was a high chance it would be a good episode & this was an amazing episode, Ben's last episode on the show unfortunately 😭, what a loss, of course, Ben would name his last episode after cas 😭, his favorite character 😍, he writes cas so well & so smart, the way he was staying ahead of the angels, hiding in the similarities of a food chain & hiding the tablet inside of him 🧠 big brain, you're big brain too for figuring out these demons aren't Sam & dean 👏, Naomi telling cas that he was with the angels in ancient Egypt when they killed all the first born sons but he just can't remember it coz he had to be reprogrammed & reset over & over for millions of years!!! That's fucking huge, cas was always a rebel & it would be so interesting to see all those times he disobeyed before, in 4x02 Cas tells dean that this is the first time angels are walking among humans in thousands of years, but maybe not, how can we trust him when his memory has been wiped clean so many times?, A prequel idea if i say so myself, obviously it would be cas in a different vessel so no Misha 😢 but still would be so interesting to know more about cas's history, one thing i love about Ben is that he doesn't need to write any character stupid to get the outcome he wants, he writes all the characters as smart, Kevin, Cas, Crowley, etc.., it's hard writing all opposing sides as smart competent beings, idk if Kevin was in hell, i think he was just on a boat in a place on earth that Crowley surrounded with a spell or something, but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️, Crowley is so smart, he had an angel on the inside with Naomi, Spying on her, waiting for the right moment to strike & take the angel tablet but am i the only one who thinks melting an angel blade into a bullet is stupid 🤣, the blade can be used over & over but the bullets will run out unless you reuse them somehow, it's better for far range but not sustainable, the parallels with Sam & Cas are always delightful, they are both trying so hard to make up for their past mistakes, to prove something to themselves, that whole sam's speech about feeling unclean & not pure breaks me everytime 😭, Jared's acting was top notch, yes, metatron caused that white light that almost burned Crowley & teleported Kevin out, white glow usually means angels, metatron is the scribe of god, he wrote god's words, while Kevin is a prophet, he reads them, metatron brings a whole new level of meta to the show in this episode, coz he's looking at angels, demons & humans from an outside perspective, a bystander, like us, thinking angels are babies craving their father's attention, humans as fascinating creators with free will, "when you write a story, you become god" Ben was having his own godstiel moment here 🤣, usually in this show black suits mean demons, grey suits mean angels, Ben bringing up lucifer, Michael, Gabriel & rafael, he really said let me reference peak SPN before i leave 🤣, that last scene!! Cas running back to the winchesters when he's hurt 😭, i have no idea how he found them tho 🤣 don't they have angel warding on their ribs that cas himself put on them in season 5 & that's why he used to call dean on the phone?, i think this is an excellent episode for a rewatch, too much happened, too many layers, great reaction, Shelley 👏

I was so happy to see this episode up. Crowley almost had it all, but Kevin outmaneuvered him in the end. He would have died before he told Crowley the last trial and now the boys are all back together and they are way ahead of him. He's got the angel tablet, but what good is it to him with no one to read it. It's just a piece of rock for all the good it does him. "To cure a demon" Can they be cured? What does "curing mean"? I thought they were all just dead people. So, no clue at this point. Sam breaks my heart in this episode. I realize that all his life he somewhere in his deep heart thought there was something un-pure about himself. When I think back to early Sam and how virtuous he was. And I think that he's the one that Lucifer zeroed in on. It's like they wanted to take the purest soul and corrupt it. I do think that these trials are changing him. Maybe it's burning away all that demon blood the put in him. I hope so, but I'm worried too. Jared was so good here; he's an amazing actor and he doesn't get the really emotional stuff like Jensen does all the time. I love it when he gets to shine too. They're really all so good. But Sam is kind of basic and sincere next to Dean so he seems under played. Until that is you see Jared in real life and you see the difference. I am so excited about these next two, you are going to love this.

Re angel bullets vs angel blade. Yeah, I agree with you that the angel bullet is only good for far range. If we look at Crowley's perspective, he needed to defeat the angels to get the angel tablet. Angel blade is good on a one-on-one fight, while the bullet is a good strategy from a distance. He cannot win with a one-on-one fight with an angel, even though he has teleportation and telekinetic ability, whereas an angel has smiting ability, among others, to name a few. Therefore he needs the bullets, he had to defeat them from a distance. He doesn't care if the blade is gone, he doesn't need the blade in a fight as he has other abilities. He only needs the bullets in the moment, for him to WIN and get the angel tablet.

Purify. That word is a strong one. Sam has always had the weight of being a freak and not being normal throughout his story in supernatural. Being a hunter and then having demon blood were the two main reasons he considered himself a freak and wanted out of the life. But earlier this season he had accepted that he could not have that normal life as long as the work remained unfinished so finishing these trials was his way out. But now these trials are purifying him which i took as they are clearing him of his demon blood literally making him a regular human (which is why he feels unwell and symbolically helping him get the weight of all his past mistakes washed clean. Now we get metatron finally. The scribe of God can finally help them solve the tablet business and fix the angel situation that he had ignored previously. Now we have to cure a demon. We have talked about monsters before being victims that did not have a choice in what they became and this applies to demons as well. A soul is torture and corrupted in hell until it turns into a demon like ruby said in season 3. So those souls were forced to become what they are.

I forget to say this in my first comment but i love that Kevin filmed a video telling the winchesters to screw themselves in case they get him killed rofl, but no he wasn't dead like you thought, he just couldn't reset it coz he was taken

Having just been rewatching Season 8 via your amazing reviews I'm wondering, as you did in more than one episode, why on earth they didn't move Kevin into the bunker?!
