I am curious as to why you didn't continue this mini series, and would truly love it if you would come back to it. To me, this is some of the best dramatization of true events ever committed to film. I especially enjoy episodes 4 as a good depiction of the overall socio-political climate of the time - especially in that year; and 5 for really getting into the science of why we did the moon landings the way we did, and also how the landing vehicle developed from an idea, through all the intermediate stages, to its final form that landed on the moon. Maybe that's a *little* spoiler-ish but I think I'm vague enough... The rest of the eps mostly just deal with the seven moon landings. However, the last one also deals with all the inspiration people had over the decades leading up to this, culminating in this great adventure in which human beings finally journeyed From the Earth to the Moon.

To answer your question about North American Aviation, NASA, like every other government agency, awards contracts for construction of its vehicles to companies based upon competitive bids. North American had the contract to build the Apollo command module and Grumman won the contract to build the Lunar Module. There's a good depiction of that in episode 5, "Spider."
