actually the reason is octopi can hold their breath for a while, if they are expecting to be out of the water. But because the tank shattered so quickly, she didnt have time to take the needed oxygen in. It’s kind of like a human holding their breath before they dive into a pool, vs being forced under the water. The surprise of Kevin breaking the tank is what killed her
