Alright, this is just a reflection of her own mind, torned between her desires, her own perception about her... a nightmarish realization, that she's always been the cat outside.

in reality, in the "real" thing that happened but I couldn't make at the end because the story would have been too long, is that Laura liked to watch the rain, watch outside...

in the original version of this part of the story, she was going to sneak outside, feel the rain, play with a cat and she might have been seen by other "humans" 

leading to her being captured.

but that was a full "story" episode, it was too long to make... so I turned everything in just symbols, as some sort of a nightmarish memory, her mix of guilt and self-realization that she's not "human"
