this is the origin of the shadows seen in episode 1. 

they're beings from another dimension or planes, just brought by the portals... or were they channeled into this world by Susu? chan

anyway, these shadows are a bit inspired by 3 things:

• Hounds of Tindalos, from the lovecraft tales
• The shadows from D&D, for the general look they had in the neverwinter nights game
• the monster thingies I remembered that died with light from Alone in the Dark 4 game (I was a kid when I saw a bit of the gameplay, but never forgot that you had to use a flashlight to fight them)... might be similar to the Alan Wake darkness thing?
